MD/DC/VA Golfers - This One Goes to Eleven

Wife decided today to book the Pinehurst trip that Golfers Journal is running for the end of September. Coming in a day early to play Pine Needles, preview round on #4 and then #2 the next day. Zipping home Friday night to catch the Ryder Cup Saturday - which on Paris time - should be nice and early.

 

Awesome man! I was scoping out the prices on their site yesterday. I think it was $520 for just the two rounds on #2 and #4 (no lodging), which is fairly decent. Which membership/subscription option did you get for Golfers Journal? Was wondering if the top tier was worth it at all. Or do you need the top subscription to get the Pinehurst deal?

No I just have the basic membership, did seem like a good deal though, two rounds and the events for $520.

Played in a scramble today at Fairway. The two bridges that are out are going from 17 to 18 and from 6 to 7. All the tees on 18 are on the red tee box. A bunch of fairways are in rough shape. Greens and boxes are pretty good. Routing of the course....start on 1, go thru 6. Turn around and go back to 10. Play 10-17, then turn around, play 7-9, then go to 18. Crazy but that’s how they are doing it with the two bridges gone. I mean gone, not a trace that they were there before.

Won the tourney today with a 58. My buddy had a hole in one on 17, played 158 today. And the cart girl was right there, perfect! We won a foursome to Argyle CC.

Yeah, I mean you obviously don't get a few tries to find the bottom and groove it when you're on the course. Would be nice to just overall move the arc a bit with those clubs. I haven't gotten to the videos about arc height yet.

 

I thought that's what practice swings were for? Finding the bottom isn't nearly for me as tough as squaring the face. That said, I had the same issue on WM 9 last weekend. But that was b/c I am a mental midget and forgot to get my shoulders lined with the slope.

The fox world cup coverage is a hilarious mess. It's like they sent Lalas and no one else from America. Maybe some c-team guys.

 

They keep going to foreign broadcasters. They just had "someone" translating an interview with a French player, but it clearly wasn't a translator. She were getting confused trying to talk at the same time and then she just quit trying.

Well.. that range session went from good to eugh fast.

 

Started out going to DSG’s for shiggles. Gave the AP3’s a few hits, which felt nice. Always looking for the new shiny, I guess. Didn’t buy anything, though was slightly tempted to get a 54.

 

Went to the I-70 Driving Range after an early lunch. Took out and laid down an alignment stick, which I’ve had a pair for 2-3 years but put in the bag when I played at PB Dye.

 

Started with the 7 iron, looking at alignment mainly. Felt good, then tried to work the ball a little but it did not work out. Got back to just hitting straight, keeping alignment in order as I went to 9 iron,4 Hybrid, and the wedges.

 

Put the alignment stick away as I pulled 4 Wood, hitting that similar flight I’ve liked.

 

Then it went crazy when I pulled driver... figured out I was standing WAY too wide at first. Then realized I was casting the club and was just so narrow an arc. The final shots were decent, but not what I need to feel good about it.

I dont care how dumb or too "softly worded" the announcers think 14-5 is, 1-2 clearly states if the act is specifically covered under another rule - IE the hitting a moving ball rule/14-5 - that other rule always takes precedence. Which is essentially what the USGA said.

 

To much whining about it. I get it, but this isnt going to "seriously impact his legacy" just shut up already with that garbage Curtis Strange. Move on, FFS they havent shut up about it for the last hour.

BTW not to denigrate NY crowds but I'm going to denigrate them for a minute. Enough with the post-shot yelling. I know its always annoying but it seems worse this weekend than any event I can think of offhand this season.

Missed the Mickelson thing since I listened to FAbb and CJ and actually played golf.

 

Lefty should be DQ'd for that. Bad mental lapse when playing poorly. It's something I've done before when I'm playing solo, but wouldn't even think of that in a $2 nassau, never mind the US Open.

After my 24-putt-front-9 debacle and before my respectable-33-but-should-have-been-29 day today, I ordered a Putt Out training aide. Saw it repped by Crossfield and just got it in the mail today when I got home. Seems pretty nice. Better than the cheap cup I'm currently using on the carpet. Seems like a nice way to hit a bunch of well paced putts, in much quicker succession than hitting it to a cup, raking it back, etc. I can bring it to the Solstice if anyone is curious. Folds up nice and small.

 

My 33 putt day today was misleading because I had 1 putt on the final 2 holes. Made birdie from the fringe on 18. Missed almost everything in the 5-10 foot range today, including a few looks at bird that were way easier than the one I actually made.

 

Let me be the first to break the news: MTN can putt. He was lighting it up. It was the oddest damn thing I've ever seen. Still can't chip though.

"I don't think he could hit the green if he dropped it out of a helicopter". Helicopters normally fly pretty high and it would be hard to hit a green from one. So this doesn't make any sense, but it's my favorite thing Azinger has said all week.
