Speaking of watching golf: I would rather not play and watch my friends play golf than not play and watch professionals play golf.

 

too bad you didn't have this attitude at the final Capitol Cup.

I went to put something in the car and when I got back you both had already gone back out. I asked if anyone wanted to get in a cart and go watch, and no one said yes. And then no one knew what 9 you were playing. And that place is not easy to navigate.

JT, DJ, and Tiger might be my favorite trio to watch in all of golf. Could be slightly improved by switching JT for Rory.

 

For most of the day, Tiger didn't look nearly as terrible as his score. He could still put up a decent round tomorrow and make the cut.

Equally shocked at how bad Rory was off the tee. On 1, he hit a UDI2 into the hay. The fairway was 50 yards wide.

Probably so but with significantly amplified angst over putts 5 ft and in. It was making the announcers uncomfortable. It drew my attention because I get the same exact way. Forget how to putt the ball where you aim. Forget to aim at the hole. Just get so consumed about the fact that you could miss it!

So both Waverly and Blue Mash have dumped a bunch of sand on greens recently. Why are the courses doing that? I don't remember that being an issue in past years.

 

This isn't an issue of filling aerification holes with sand. It's just dumping sand on the greens.

 

All clubs with bent grass greens do this. Or should. When they verticut they add sand to keep the grass growing straight up. If done properly it shouldn't impact putting. They do not usually need a lot of sand.

Tiger and I had a lot in common this week. At Northwest, I opened +4 through the first two holes, drove the ball well, and had a 4 putt.

Hey guys, I don't know if this is the place to post or ask, but I am traveling up to the DC area at the end of next week for 5 days and am looking to play golf. I currently work at a ClubCorp course in Florida so I was looking to play one, possibly two courses in the area. How would you rank River Creek Club, Piedmont, Norbeck Country Club, and Chantilly National amongst the four of them? I've never been to DC before so I would like anyone's input if possible. Thank you!

Yeah I dont mind seeing guys "struggle". But I dont want to see pros hit a green in 3 and make a 9. I dont want to see the best players in the world shoot 80+. Not fun for me. Example I used was I dont tune into an NBA game to see Lebron and Steph Curry throw up bricks and go 4-25 from the field because "thats how I play". I tune in to see Lebron ripping violent dunks and Steph raining 3s from the courtside seats.

You guys are being super soft. Rory played awful. I watched him hit a shot from the middle of the fairway thirty yards short. DJ Rose stenson all played well. You want to shoot a good score? Hit good shots

ONE GUY hit a green and made a 9. Let's stop acting like that was the story of the day.

 

The course was playable. The wind was tough and obviously they were very timid in getting at pins. Turning rough around the greens into closely mown areas seems to have a huge effect on play.

 

It's a tough when closely-mown is combined with slopey, firm greens. Yesterday was a tough day of golf where the guys playing best shot -1 or E. IOW, a good US Open. 3 footers got these guys knees knocking. Everything was running out just an extra foot around the hole.

 

I'm not rooting for this to turn into 2004, but if they keep it like it was yesterday for 4 straight days we're going to get a good champ out there.

Sort of a funny story there. See the guy in the distance on the green bent over? He's bent over looking at my ball.

 

I hit a good drive where I'm standing and had 244 to the pin. I absolutely center-faced a 4W that landed right over the pin and it ran out through the green. Well, that green, the left side is completely blocked by trees (you can see this in the picture). So, I'm getting around to teeing up the driver and getting my camera phone out and I look up and the guy is bent over my ball. He HAD BEEN more than a hole in front of me and I played a few balls into the previous green so I didn't even think he could have been out there.

 

Also hit some teed up wedges into par 3's yesterday.
