Careers that allow you to play a lot of golf?

If you want to play golf, do not get a job in the golf industry.

Also, many fields, time is related to how much you're paid. You might choose to take less pay to have more freedom, and that's fine, but also understand the choice you're making has long term ramifications. Several years ago I chose basically to give up golf so I could focus on an investment. It paid off, and this year I'll probably get 200 rounds in.

A lot of ways you can go with this....

For me, golf is time away from the family. You could decide to work nights and play all you want during the day. Of course, you'll still never see your family, but at least you won't have the guilt?

Or, you could get a job in sales or marketing and play a lot of customer golf? That said, in my line of work, that amounts to maybe a handful of rounds per year. I wouldn't call that a lot.

Or you can be an entrepreneur, start your own gig and work whatever hours make sense so you can play a lot of golf.

Option 3 seems to make the most sense, but is also the most difficult.

Being in straight commission sales with yourself being your only boss has worked for me the last 30 years.

Jobs where you work from home part of your time are also the way to go. I travel about half my time and spend about a quarter of my time working from home. When I want to I just play golf around the schedule, like head out early afternoon when working from home. I also do play occasionally when I travel around the US. Have played several states including California, Texas and Hawaii that way. Nothing beats getting off the plane and heading to the course rather than an office. Or staying over the weekend and getting sightseeing and golf in. I have a career in corporate audit.

This is probably the best, most easily achievable answer IMO.

Emergency department RN

I work 3/12’s night shift. I even pick up an extra shift once or twice a month. Still leave me 3 days I could golf. Wife and kids are more of a limiting factor but I still get to play once or twice a week.

I love my job and only working 3-4 days/wk. I don’t think I could work a job 5 days/wk.

At the club I was a member of back in the 90's - the best player was a 50 year old guy who drove a beer truck...kept his clubs in the cab, and tried to schedule as many of his deliveries for early morning/late night as he could.

He used to tell stories, about his boss getting on his case for being late with deliveries because he was on the golf course! (this was back before cell phones/GPS when you could be tracked everywhere you went)

The guy was a huge $$$ player - always had big $ games going on (probably earned more off golf gambling than driving the truck!)...but he was a great stick => qualified for at least 1 US Sr. Open (Saucon Valley in 2000 )...maybe more

I'm a painting contractor and still work the jobs. There is still a lot of time for golf, I just can't pick when. Rainout days are a sure thing. And it doesn't take much rain to be rained off of a job. After hours jobs are great too. Stores and restaurants have to be painted after close, so I can play before or after work. In 1990 I asked myself the same question the OP asked. And I dropped out of grad school just short of my doctorate. So in the big picture I have no regrets about being self-employed. And more important than golf, I can be available for wakes and funerals and visiting the hospital for a sick friend. This may be the best example. My dad was my favorite golf buddy, and the last two years of his life he was very ill. I had the flexibility to see him everyday and always be on call for medical emergencies.

Most anything that is sales in a decent volume/size. Where its best to know your customer on a better level than just a “wham-bam-thank you-ma’am”. Ive also noticed my lawyer plays a TON of golf with other lawyers and judges. No wonder he cost so much damn money. Im partially paying for greens fees that im not even playing.... Ahh screw it the guy is good and well worth it.

Im a school teacher and golf coach. I can play just about any day I want to. This year, I drive the high school volleyball team bus and keep all the books for home games so Tue and Thur I cant but other than that Im done and out the school at 245. So even when its dark at 530 I have time to at least get in 9 or hit balls for a couple hours. Then I am off from the last week of may to August 1st. I dont work a summer job so its as much golf as I choose to play. Factor in 2 weeks off for Christmas, a week for Thanksgiving, week for spring break, and 3 days for Mardi Gras and there is all sorts of golf time available.

Working from a home office as a 'remote' employee for a major corporation worked well for me until I took early retirement. I actually played more often when I was employed than I do now. I would play nine holes in the a.m. teeing off no later than 5:45 or 6 a.m. and be back 'online' ready to take calls or respond to email by 8:30 a.m.

Friend of mine owns a small insurance company. He basically stops playing from the beginning of open enrollment through the week that he gets all of the IRS health plan compliance paperwork mailed out. But for the rest of the year he only has to keep up with small changes (add a new baby, new employee, etc). He plays a lot of golf during the year with the health plan reps and execs for his customer companies, so he even gets to expense and write off most of those rounds.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
