To compare, here is Jack's 1982 season when he was 42.

15 starts

3 missed cuts

7 Top 10s

2 thirds (Crosby, Kemper)

3 seconds (San Diego, Bay Hill, US Open)

1 WIN (Colonial, he would win two more in his career)

$232,645 for 12th on the money list

12th place in 2017 was $4.3 million. Crazy how big the money is now. Those results for Jack would be a great season for Tiger. He is off to a good start. Be interesting to see if he can stay healthy and keep it going.

I agree. If Tiger wins once, makes a serious charge at a major, has seven Top 10s, makes the Tour Championship and Ryder Cup team, this season goes into the win column.

Comeback Player of the Year

Does that award still exist?

They replaced it with The Courage Award, which sounds a lot like a participation trophy to me. They should hand that one out to the rest of the field, seeming as though they are always going up against insurmountable odds with Tiger in the mix!

So brave.

The worst thing about Tiger finding some form this early in the season is the massive media hype which came as a result. The man has only got two top 5s! It's far too early yet for people to be predicting a major victory, making the Ryder Cup, etc. Wait till Tiger plays decent golf for another month or so, or at least lets wait to see how he fares at Augusta...

While I don't disagree necessarily with the notion of the cart before the horse, "only" 2 top fives from where he was is remarkable.

The question now is health. If he stays healthy and that's a big if, he will be Top 20 in the rankings by next March. His short game appears to be one of the very best on the planet now, which it has not been for the previous 4 years. Majors are something else entirely. He is a head case in those tournaments and has been ever since Yang beat him.

I agree, it is incredible that he's come so far in such short time, I just don't think the man needs all the current hype surrounding him heading into the Masters. Of course, he's Tiger Woods, so such hype is natural, but on paper, and on recent form, there are players in far better form than him. I think his chances of winning would be higher if he wasn't in the top 1 or 2 favourites, based on a couple of top 5s,

Can't wait for Tiger to win a major this year and silence the peanut galleries of the internet.

What if you're allergic to peanuts?

I'm waiting around for the circus peanut galleries. What the h3ll are those things made of anyways? So good

His chances of winning are not very good regardless of what the betting odds say. If you put him at 1,000:1 odds instead of 8:1, he would not have a better chance. His ballstriking right now is not ready to win a major, but his short game is definitely there. It's as good as anyone else's short game right now. I don't think he can fix the ballstriking in 2 weeks and I also think he's too much of a head case in majors now. But having said that...I would not be surprised at all if he finishes Top 10 or even Top 5.

That might be the most sensible, down to earth post in this entire thread.

The man doesn't need the pressure of being an unjustified favourite. Would be great to see him as a mortal player, a man coming from back lengthy injury layoff.. let the man play golf..

I'm sure he would prefer they leave him alone. He is still trying to get into playing shape with his ballstriking under tournament pressure. But that's not how the media operates. He has been the most scrutinized golfer over the last 20 years and I would think it continues for the rest of his career.

Let's resume this chat after The Masters and The Players, when ALL the big horses show up together. I'm impressed to the max with Tiger so far, and I'm not really a fan. I stood behind him half a dozen times at The Valspar and watched him pound it 300+, watched him stripe irons, chip well, and putt well. Fused back or not, his longevity is still a question he asks himself. Looks great now, nobody knows how it will hold up over the long haul. I'm pulling for him, as you can see he has the excitement back. And it IS most certainly a different Tiger. Old Tiger didn't talk, rarely smiled, wanted to bury you. New Tiger has a different aura about him....

If his back stays healthy and he gets comfortable with the driver, then look out

The driver is one thing and he needs to make the bad drives a little less bad. But he always used to spray a few drives. Another concern is his control on irons and full wedge shots. Not anywhere near where it should be. All considered, his finishes are very good. Needs to stay healthy so he can keep working and he should be ready to rack up wins again.

I remember when tiger was at his peak and how he controlled everything related to golf. I remember interviews from various players and most of the questions asked to them was about tiger. Some if not most of the golfers got tired of answering same questions about tiger. When he was dominating the sport everyone was basically playing for second place. Just like when Hogan came back from the ashes of his injury so is tiger . But tiger is tiger and he will want to lay waste to all who tees it up during the week he plays. Is this the second ( or what ever version we are at now) coming . I think we will see him dominate with scores, driving distance, short game. What does everyone else think?

In a word...... No

With this being a WGC week, aren't they playing for first because he's not qualified to play in the event?

It's a good thing for everyone else that there are no sponsor exemptions for these. Lucky they all is I tell ya, LUCKY!
