Bandon Trip Report 3/22-3/25

So we’ve been wary of this trip because the forecast was garbage. We decided to change it up and play Sandpines on the way down and my buddies didn’t want to play 36 a day so today we played Sandpines, tomorrow Sheep Ranch, Sat. preserve and then Bandon Dunes and Sun we are playing Trails.

IMO, Sandpines is a perfect way to break up the drive. 3 hours and you can get out, stretch your legs and play 18 in a cart. I also feel it is a great warmup for Bandon. Similar soft sand bunkers and a sand based course that can play either linksy or through the air. Also let me add that I forgot how fun Sandpines is. Almost every tee provides you with multiple options and is a fairly forgiving course.

This may be helped that I shot a sloppy 84 but cleaned up on skins and net gross. The conditions ended up being wonderful, well, 50 degrees and and a steady 15 mph wind with gusts up to 30. But we were supposed to get a 1/4” of rain and ended up with hail on our 2nd shots on 9 and dry other than that.

3/23 - Sheep Ranch -

Today was interesting. So we were supposed to get .60 of an inch of rain so we were mentally prepared. We got there and set up a tarp between our cars so we could have a place to grill some dogs and get dry. Played the holes in the suggested layout and then came in for lunch. Went back out and just played some funny holes. Made 2 par 9’s is what we estimated them at.

Course was in good shape and greens rolled great but a few had some standing water. I would HIGHLY suggest everyone get out and play it. Especially while you can. Greg, who manages it, said he really has no idea when the course will turn over to a Bandon course and get built.

Yeah, my group is whining about that but that’s why I spent the coin on some Galvin Green raingear, dry as a bone today. I just look at it as part of Bandon but that would be nice.

Charlie, you are there now? Me and the Reserve guys will be there next week. We are playing the Sheep Ranch too. Were you the only guys out there? Greg said there might be other golfers out there when we are there.

I hope you get lucky on the weather for the rest of your trip. The forecast doesn't look promising.

Yesterday he let another 4some on. They actually annoyed us but we probably annoyed them too. When they started we were on the furthest corner of the property but after lunch we were playing the starting tee box to the furthest north green. There was 8 of us that tees off together and they hit into our balls and walked right through our tee shots to the hole we wanted to play. But other than that it was no big deal.

We went Feb 14th Valentines day. It's a great time, especially for those that are married lol

Bunch of guys are thinking Bandon in the summer. Yes it costs more, but you get more golf and the weather is slightly more predictable.
