Back to back inaugural events, and this one also has a strong field. Sung Hyun, Anna, and In Gee are the only LPGA players in the Rolex Top 25 sitting out.

 

The weather forecast looks good. There's a chance for a couple of showers on Sunday, but otherwise it'll be partly sunny with temps in the 50's and 60's, and winds 10 to 15 mph.

 

The Golf Channel coverage is not as good as last week, with only 2 1/2 hours of primetime (U.S.) for the first two rounds, and 3 hours on the weekend.

 

No reason not to go with Inbee again. I expect to see Jin Young near the top as well.

If I understand correctly, this is not an inaugural event so much as a replacement for the "Swinging Skirts" event which used to occupy this spot in the calendar and was formerly hosted at Lake Merced. The Swinging Skirts event returned to Taiwan for later in the year.

 

I mean, technically it is a new sponsor and hence an "inaugural event" per se, but in the same course and same or similar spot in the calendar.

Now, as for potential favourites to win, I'm going to go with So Yeon Ryu. She had a decent finish last week and she knows this course. Of course, it would be a safe bet to go with In Bee Park too. I also like Brooke Henderson in this one too. 2015 she finished 3rd. (-7) and in 2016, the last year that it was held at Lake Merced, she finished T6 (-1).

 

Regardless, it's nice to see an event in the San Francisco area for the LPGA.

Let's not forget about Minjee....on Lake Merced...she won the 2012 US. Jr. Girls Am....beating Alison Lee and Ariya and Lydia in the semi's too...and has finished T18 & T11 in 2015/2016 at the Swing Skirts.

The Lydia-leaving-Leadbetter thread has me nostalgic for her wins here. Such a different situation and field now. Seems near-certain we'll be seeing Inbee right in top contention again.

 

I think Golf Dino is right on with So Yeon! She just had her best go of the season last week, and she's got that record 63 here. So she can do this course great if she's in form. Would love to see Minjee too, of course.

 

So I am curious to see if it really will be so chilly; I didn't know SF did that, interesting. Looks around 50 degrees tomorrow. Ah, I guess that might get some of the gals in parkas...

Funny thing ...it seemed to me that Lydia played some of her best golf when she had local caddies on her bag. Who knows ... maybe that could be a "good feeling" thing for her if she returned to something like that?

I like your darkhorse pick. I see her winning on the LPGA, I'm not ready to pick her yet though.

 

So Yeon Ryu has had this week circled on her calendar since before it was officially announced so I'll pick her and will be rooting for her to win this week.

 

Inbee, the Jutanugarn's and Jin Young Ko are so hot they'll be in the mix this week and for weeks to come.

Marina is in this group as well she just needs to get that first win.

In Gee withdrew from the LA tournament due to illness. I don't believe she was originally scheduled to play this week, but it's possible she's still under the weather. She played last year in the Texas Classic, so if she's healthy I expect we'll see her next week.

Honestly, I think Lydia could play well with the Jetson's robot Rosie on the bag. She had a great rookie season when she experimented with different local caddies each week, but she also had a great sophomore season with Jason Hamilton on the bag full time.

1) I think you'd agree that Yuting will be unfortunately out of her league on the LPGA this week as a sponsor invite. It would be great if she played well to get TV coverage all 4 days....but I honestly believe, she won't make the cut....there's a reason why she's back on the CLPGA...mediocre play.

Lydia also won as an Am at the 2012 CN CWO with local member, Brian Alexander on the bag and another local member on her bag when she won the 2013 CN CWO too.

 

Lydia as an Am couldn't win the $300,000 winner's check in both events...and in her interview....I can't remember which year....the only thing she wanted was a puppy but knew it was unrealistic due to all her travel.
