Exactly. To me that's a really flat sole. Those two irons will play through the turf quite differently.

The TS3 sole looks like the KE4 Max sole. I played with a KE4 Max 7i today and loved the turf interaction. I’ve been considering buying a set of either the TS2 or TS3, but the KE4 Max played its way into the mix today.

"Effective bounce" or how much a sole will resist digging or not, is determined by sole width, front to back sole radius, leading edge grind, along with the actual bounce angle and leading edge height

Looks like the TS-1 and PTM had a baby that got the tungsten but not the foam. Looking forward to blade length and bounce figures. Offset progression is almost PTM exactly.

I see some PTM influences and to me that's a GREAT thing. I loved the PTMs and only dropped them once they came out of cycle. 

I'm hoping for that same level of forginess with great feel. Being a solid forging I hope they will eclipse the TS-1 in feel and feedback. 

I just hope they arrive in time to be hit in the simulator.

TS3 heads have landed. I have one drying up and hope to hit it this after noon. Have a full session planned tomorrow at noon indoors. 

Pictures do not do these justice. I love they way the progressive cavity moves through the heads. 

The finish is super understated. The lines are incredibly clean. Really pumped to hit these. Should have feedback on the 7 iron later today.

These look great. Would love to see your opinion on these vs the ke4 max heads.

So super small sample size in play. 42° strong wind, marginal turf. 

My initial thought is SOFT. So So soft through the ball but it does give back just enough feedback. Feel wise it's unlike any of the latest releases. All of the polymer filled irons to me have a bit of a click. Good feel but clicky. The TS3 is just smooottthhhh. Ball got up quickly and flew beautifully. Hit about 6 shots in play. Distance control seemed right on. Sole /turf interaction was excellent. With the muddy ground it could have easily grabbed the club head. None of that at all. 

Tomorrow will be in the simulator and off matts I hate but it will be direct comparisons. 

Size wise it's really close to the KE4 Max. The sole is narrower but toplines are fairly close. 

The TS3 sole has the slightest V that is similar to a Srixon. Sole wise the TS2 comes the closest. 

In the photos the TS1, TS3 and Ke4 Max are together. Then it's the TS3 and TS2. 

Again initial impressions are that these have feel that no other recent Maltby release has had. Might be Mizuno level. 

I'll have a lot more thoughts tomorrow

Popeye:  The TS-3 blade length is actually slightly shorter than the TS-1? The COG is slightly lower than TS-1? The weight is the same? Yet, it packs 150+ more MPF? Then you say the feel is soft.

 

I am having a cognitive dissonance.  I am having trouble conceptualizing such a club. It sounds like a TS-1 + KE-4 Max rolled into one and then given to Mizuno to make on a special no limit cost prototype. 

 

Am I understanding this correctly?

Did you spec the club heads before assembling?  What is the weight of each head?  Are loft and lie accurate?

I did not weigh the heads but I did check loft and lie on three of them. They were all very close. 7 iron swing weighted at D-1.5. 

After final assembly I'll make sure they are all on spec. I usually do not do any thing with loft and lie till after they are done. 

Only reason I checked was a customer was over when they arrived. He was more than curious.
