Cost effective but good enough golf bag. Help me.

I had a terrible, the worst round 2 days ago. I know that's on me.

But, as a WRXer, I decided to build up a cost effective self fitted bag.

- never been fitted. But, hoed tons of clubs.

- Driver SS around 105. Smoother transition.

- 9 handicap

- white board, rogue silver, KoroKage silver suited me nicely.

Driver - Titleist 915 D2 with white board 70 Stiff, 160 bucks. considered older Ping's model but they are holding their value so well.

3 Wood - Titleist 915f with white board 80 Stiff, 100 bucks. again Ping, expensive.

2 Hybrid - Titleist 915hd with white board 90 Stiff, 60 bucks. considered some adams' but hard to find clean one. I normally hook most of hybrids but I hope heavier shaft will help.

2 Driving Iron - Taylormade P790 UDI with stock hzrdus, 190 bucks. I never had any success with DIs. tried everything except Cobra king utility and this one. Of course it is on me. Anyway, I just want to try it. But, this is making total price very higher.

Iron set(4-p) - Adams cmb with C taper stiff. under 300 buck. I can play any stiff shafts but ctaper gives me straightest flight. This is the cheapest set with ctaper.

Wedge(52/58) - Wilson Staff PMP. 45 bucks each as new. I am not picky with wedges so the cheapest and new is the best.

Total - $900. I think I can manage under 1K without telling my beloved almighty wife. Should I get rid of DI dream? or, give it a go?

Is there something can be replaced?

Any advise or suggestion will be deeply appreciated. Thanks ya all.

I find it easier to build up my bag over time (done this with my current bag, easier to wait for good deals and be patient).

I've been fit for clubs before, and know roughly what I like and what clubs will and wont work for me. Hows your iron game? If you can hit the 2i well and consistently it's a great club to have on tight fairways. From your post this doesn't seem to be the case, and I'd hold off on the di and put the extra leftover into some wedges!

Also, you going to be putting with a driver?

I've played all those titleist clubs and loved them, if you can check which shafts are avaliable used and see of they align with what you like.

Also check the classifieds and craigslist for any good deals!

Oh, I forgot to mention the putter. I have zero complaint on my current gamer(evnroll hatchback).

Thanks for thoughtful comment!!

You could do that or get a large bucket at the range and save $990. If that doesn't work and it's really bad, get a lesson for for another $50. Lots has to happen in the proper sequence in the two seconds from takeaway to impact...

edited to add: If you just want new/different gear, that's cool too.

Here. Are my thoughts,

Hybrid- I tend to hook hybrids as well. Keep a lookout for an M1, I picked one up for $70 with an extra shaft, slid the weight to fade... no more hooks.

3w- unless you are set on the Titleist you can find something MUCH cheaper. I’ll look for slightly older 3ws with shafts that I know I’ll get a long with. I picked up a Callaway X2hot Pro for $45 and love it.

D.I.- I usually bag a hybrid or a DI/UI not both. IMO pulling this and adding another wedge would be the way to go.

With respects to the 3 wood slot newer is not necessarily better. You can find a solid prior generation fairway wood for well under $100. The TMag Aeroburner three woods are awesome as well as the old school Cleveland Launcher FL series fairway woods.

I love golf

I just wanted to have that shaft with that weight. I cannot find good combo for me with less money. Thanks for the input!!!

I can't even recall how many sets I've HO'd until I reformed. Looking back what a waste of money, though admittedly was fun.

I'd say go to the best fitter in your area, get fit, buy a set you 'love' and just play them....I'm on same set of irons for I think fifth year now and play better with fit clubs than ever had before.

Even though pro at my club said that there's no good fitter in my area sadly.

The best option is in 3 hours driving range.

Oh, I had a small checking session from him several month ago, he said I am playing which are well suited to me.

But, someday I will do the full bag fitting but not today lol.

Thanks!!

It's not about how much your arrows costs in your bag, it's about how much game the Indian has.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

"Loft for loft, length for length, and shaft for shaft, the ball will go the same distance when hit on the sweet spot regardless how old the iron."
