Ugh. It's a good thing I don't have to make a living picking winners. Jin Young and Inbee, two of my picks, both missed the cut. Ariya is still in it, but at seven shots off the lead, has a bit of work to do this weekend.

I just knew Jin Young would shoot a round in the sixties to make the cut and then play her way into another top ten on the weekend. She left 2 strokes out there somewhere.

Just speculating, but wouldn't Michelle had known if her wrist was so sore that she should have WD before the round started, thus allowing Paula a spot? It's not like this injury just popped this morning, as she's been battling this all year.

That would have been the decent thing to do but I don't think she's that big on "decent"

I'll give her a pass. Definitely not the 1st time an athlete has tried to play through injury.

If Pornanong wins this , it will mark the coming of age of "Ariya kids"

I believe Pornanong is older than Ariya. A lot of Thais playing today are "Pornanong kids".

I know, I just needed to get my lame joke out before Porna falls out of contention. :)

That said, I do believe the play of the Jutanugarns has raised the game of the older Thais. I believe it is the first time the last two LPGA events are won by two different Thais.

Congrats to Atthaya for making the cut. The Thai amateur continues to impress. Unfortunately she's off to a poor start this morning, +5 after 8 holes.

Gah, I'm torn: I really want Minjee to get her first major, and she totally deserves it this season...

but I also really want Porna to get her first win too. I mean who wouldn't?

Man, a thousand times this. My latest guess with Inbee had been that'd we'd be entering a long unbroken era of her at #1...

Guessing is impossible, it's chaos out there. A top player is brilliant one week, then bombs out the next. Our minds want to interpret the world into patterns, but it feels like the patterns here are so hidden or sometimes don't even exist.

But it's fun to try. Makes you admire someone who does successfully tease out a pattern from it all. That's why the ballstriking and distance thread is so cool.

I just don't know. I like Michelle, but years ago she had a bad penchant for withdrawing if she was having really bad rounds. No good way to put a good spin on that. Admire the players who soldier through it.

From the couch view this does not feel like an LPGA event. I wonder if the pressure's any different or if it's a little bit easier for an outside player to break through here than at a Stateside event.

I think it's because it's links golf, and the players are outside their comfort zone. On top of that it seems lucky/unlucky bounces play a bigger factor than a typical parkland event. Combine the two and the unknown players are on a more level field.

That said, it's not like "unknown" players don't win other majors. So Yeon and In Gee were fairly unknown when they won the USWO.

It's definitely going to be a pressure packed Sunday. So Yeon and Sung Hyun have both been here before, and should put up good scores. Minjee certainly has the game to pull this out as well. Pornanong and Georgia are the wildcards. They're both playing great, but can they produce under pressure?

I'd say Brooke still has a chance, but she has to go low. Since she's 5 back, there's little point in her playing conservative tomorrow. Nothing to lose by firing at pins.

So Yeon Ryu and Sung Hyoon loom large on the leaderboard. People are glossing over it, but these two staged an epic duel at the most recent so-called major championship. Both seem to be playing with a lot of poise and confidence lately.

SYR and SHP are developing a great rivalry. Their budding rivalry is being talked about in Korea as well.

I would say P. Phatlum biggest asset this week is no wind. She hits it straight as an arrow and with no wind blowing things around she's just hitting fairways and greens. But you have to give her credit for executing and making the birdies
