Then Brandel sort of breaks down these "range claims".

This is one of his big beefs that he always seems to bring up > most of these yardage claims are garbage once the guys get on the course. Its the same reason the guys are posting these Trackman range videos with +5 or +6 angle of attack with the driver but in a tournament round its back in that -1 to +1 range for most guys.

Interesting to see Damon Green jump in as Ollie's caddie. DG's comments sort of referencing Zach Johnson were pretty brutal tbh, said something along the lines of talking to Ollie was nice because it made him feel wanted and made him feel like he could contribute. Wowsers.

My winter putting conundrum: floor of my garage has about a 1.2* slope (yes, I measured it). From 7 feet, I have to start the ball inside the right edge to get it in the center of the cup. I'm fearful that putting that way all winter will lead to issues where I pick of a habit of trying to push every put to play the break back.

indoor putting practice is about learning to start the ball on the line you intend and grooving that stroke. Shouldn't matter if there's a slope. I don't think there's a level spot in my house.

Cream Soda Putting Practice is really catching on. On a scale of Sasha Grey to Smooch, it's, shall we say, "in the greys".

  1. Why are you banished to your garage for putting?
  2. Why can't you turn your putting mat to run with the slope?

1. Peace and quiet. My beer fridge is out there. No dog to tear up the putting mat. Choose one.

2. my shop is 10' x 20', with a workbench along one of the 20' walls, so there isn't room going the short way.

Chief, snap a chalk line on the straight line you need to start on to make that 1.2* putt. Then you'll have no doubt as to whether you started it proper, or whether you pulled it and still went in.

Excellent idea. I use my chalk line a lot in the summer on the grass range but they are pretty inexpensive.

Agree with City though, my house is pretty unlevel and it doesnt bother me. Whenever the mat gets moved, the putt changes a bit. But with 6-8 footers, its really a lot about the PSR and process and less about speed of the putt. I have three cats that love the fact the mat is right in the sun - so "green speed" really isnt something I can pride myself on.

The only events that really bother me at all are the team ones. Because I don’t want to be the one who lost the competition for those that really put in the work.

This wasn't the only post where somebody referenced not wanting to let down a team and/or partner.

We're not playing for a living here. We're not playing a partner/team sport, where you spend a great deal of time developing as a unit. It's casual competition, where often you've rarely if ever partnered with the person before.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I personally feel like putting expectations on yourself and/or your partner is nothing but toxic for performance and the team dynamic. I can't control what my partner does. I'm not gonna walk around huffing and puffing over what they do. I'm also not gonna walk around apologizing every time I F up.

Try to get over worrying about what you are or aren't contributing, and enjoy team/partner golf. It can be a lot of fun. Go out and play a fourball with friends. Play something like wolf, where you have rotating alliances.

Also, to be clear, if you have a partnership where one guy legitimately "lets down" the other guy.

The guy who is "let down" is the guy who doesn't belong in the Hive.

Not the letter downer.

Yes, we all a bunch of us take golf very seriously here and are definitely going out to win in events. But, sometimes you win. Sometimes you don't. I take "winning" and "playing well" more seriously than anyone here and I do not give a doo doo if it doesn't happen in any particular Hive event.

FTR, the fourball this year was me and Golfer827 and he helped a ton. He owned the front. I owned the back. We both could have been complementary or critical of the other guy. I didn't play any other team events. And, it was still one of my favorite rounds of this year because of this. . .

The past few years I've come to love team golf more than my individual competitions/matches. Not that I stilil dont love individual stuff but team golf is just so much fun.

BTW for guys that have played DCGT events in the past, Eagle sent my a preliminary schedule for next year, I think he is waiting to finalize the dates though.

Friday it says its getting to 62* in the afternoon, might be up for lunch at Laurel Hills for...oh wait, its going to pour Thursday and Friday? Fantastic.

I had this magical idea in my head that when handicap season ended, the weather was going to be perfect all winter to cosmically and karmically make up for the crap year we had.

I've shifted my "magical thinking" to 1/1/19 at this point.

i was at the club on sunday. the lake overflowed onto 18 fairway. water was up to the bottom of the bridge that leads to the range. the amount of water that had fallen this weekend was just stupid.

Team golf is best golf. Even better when it's a fourball and you're still playing "self golf." My weekly game is usually 2-3 groups playing against each other, so everyone is pulling for one another in each three/foursome. I love it, even if I've net lost money of the last couple of years.

I always enjoyed it before just because I'm streaky and it's nice having a teammate pick you up, and you can really stretch yourself if you are in the position of having to carry a struggling partner for a few holes.

Do you guys open on days like that and just shut down one hole?

I'm heading to Pinecrest tonight to give the Mevo a shakedown run and so DC2 and I can get a couple of "rounds" in.

Doing just that in about 45 days, but to Orlando. Playing on Eaglemore reciprocals down there on the cheap hopefully.

Crushed to hear the flooding issues at Woodmore. I'm going to obsess about the weather and how it affects the conditions there this year now that i've made my investment.
