MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

I was originally worried when I bought the big moss that it wasnt long enough. But working on 4-8 footers is really as much as you could want for an indoor putting setup. Anything longer is really going to be speed dependent on the greens that day anyway. But with 4-8 footers you can do so many different ladder type drills. And along with that I have the Putt Out thing sitting on the side so I always finish off with a bunch of 2-3 footers. My wife thinks its hilarious to practice your form over two footers - then I regale her with the stories of two footers I have missed in tournaments.

I like the Home Depot version of Phil Kenyons putting brackets that Fabb built. Right now I'm using Bridgestone chode sleeves for the same purpose.

Went to Burke Lake last night, as expected, range balls were not exactly soft and friendly. The addage that "these feel like rocks"...thats just a myth right, theres no chance of caving in the face of a 3W even with frozen range balls.

BTW for those that live near Virginia Golf Center - saw that they upgraded their range to the Trackman Range software and there is a monitor at every station.

I'll just send em back and get credit for the M6 if that happens!

do not listen to fabb. this is a bad plan. think about how long it took you to get your driver "right." now imagine having to do that again, with a different club. no thank you.

I’m a pagan but wish I could get this for Christmas. I’m tired of all the ads with couples buying cars as presents.

Just want this..

God that looks glorious. God forbid you Josèl one tho. Watch out!

Random but if anyone wants to play Woodmore tomorrow, hit me up. I took the day off and am planning on playing all day until it rains.

HBD waiting for the fog to clear.

fabb -- what's the set up for your gate?

Distance from ball = ?

Width of gate = ?

Looks like there might be a good deal of inside putting this weekend.

I use this page as a reference.

https://visioputting.com/the-new-putting-gate-pack/

I can adjust my gate, but currently have it set as close to 55mm as I can get it.

I used a laser level and shot it at the center of the cup. I put a dot with a sharpie 5ft from the cup on that line. That's my start spot. Then I put two dots along that line - one 14" from the start spot, and another one a couple inches more target ward. Those two dots just help me to place and center the gate easily.

Per the visio site, that setup gets me training with about one degree of error allowed.

At some point, I'm gonna put spots on the green for like 10 footers as well.

Me : OK, guys who's doing Dom's drills with me?

You all are hilarious. Sorry this is late. Here's what I do pretty much every time I practice or show up before a tournament (especially if the practice green is clear).

1) Set up my Eyeline Mirror with a straight uphill putt around 8-10 feet. It makes me confirm that my address and head position is the same every time which is very important to me and allows me to be more robotic (I also have more mirrors if anyone needs one.) I'll make about 4 in a row (8 when practicing). If I miss one, I restart the drill. If I have even more time I'll use their MyRoll 2-Color golf balls. That way I know my putts are rolling straight and end-over-end.

2) Set up four golf balls on downhill putts all at different lengths. The longest being around 30-40 feet. I don't care about break here, I'm just getting the speed of the greens. Starting from the shortest one, I hit each putt so they get beyond the hole, but run no more than 3 feet by. If I make it it's a bonus. If one rolls short or goes too long, I restart the drill.

3) Then I'll do a wheel drill (4 balls before a tourney, 6 if practicing) on the hole with the steepest slope. 3-4 feet and just make them all in a row.

4) Lastly I set up four golf balls but for uphill putts at different lengths and do the same thing as #2. I think starting/ending in uphill putts makes sure I'm making aggressive strokes.

5) I usually chip and hit golf balls after this.

6) Before I go play I'll just putt with one ball and throw another down if something confused me or I made a bad stroke. Before tournaments I try and make a lot of short putts if possible.

That's it!

Assuming you complete this warm-up in the most efficient way possible, how long does this typically take you?

Trying to back in to my wake up time for my next round of golf in June when it finally stops raining.

So when you are working on 4 and 2 - do you have any sort of gauge for these putts in terms of how far you are taking the putter back or is it all by feel? In other words, for a 10 foot uphill putt vs a 40 foot uphill putt - taking the putter back just inside your right foot, halfway through your right foot etc.

I repeatedly tried to just be a feel putter on the long putts and it wasnt working out. So the last lesson I had we worked on making sure I was engaging my core and turning a bit especially as we got into the 30-50 foot range. But she wants me to work on this kind of thing in warm ups - in terms of getting a feel on long putts for that course's green speed - since a lot of my first putts seem to fall into that range.

I think....a guy I know...has at least three different eyeline mirriors. No one here should buy one if they would rather have a freebee next time we play.

I went out this morning and got in a quick 9 at Needwood. I knew the chances of golf this weekend were unlikely, so I wanted to get out.

It was my first time taking my new Jones Utility Trouper out on the course. When I started out I was wearing 4 layers of clothing, so carrying the bag felt a bit tight. Later on, when I warmed up and shed a couple layers, it felt more natural. The left arm strap is a bit awkward to reach. It seems like it was mainly designed to be a 1 strap bag, but then they kid of added the other strap.

I have to tweak the strap lengths some, I think. I have them both as long as they go, but the bag still feels light it hangs kind of high. And the bag is more horizontal than I prefer. I'd like it to be tipped up more, so the clubs are less likely to slip out.

But overall I'm really happy with it. Well made, good pockets, pimped out :)

I'm just waiting for the hand made hickory chopsticks that I ordered.

i need a picture of you standing next to your bag laid down on the ground, one hand on hip, the other looking at your watch, and i will meme the F out of this.

i'll add in the hipster accoutrements so that it looks "authentic."

you'll be the first asian with an enviable beard.
