Well, I used a Callaway Chrome Soft for both rounds at hWhiskey last week (80/82 gross, 2nd place net) and yesterday at Little Bennett (77, hwhite tees). Pretty happy with the ball

 

Yesterday's round at Little Bennett was a hoot. Played with some of my softball buddies. I was the youngest at almost 59 yrs old. Played the white tees, since they are old. The course is in good condition. Not fully back from the aeration, but pretty close. Another week and it will be fantastic. The beers and trash talk were flowing and I actually came away with some cash in my pocket. Can't wait for the rematch!

Yeah I saw the driver test but maybe it was their 2018 test. There was a specific chart where thats how they broke out the list of companies.

 

If someone is playing the Chromesoft and is happy with the Chromesoft, I wouldn't go running away because of something MGS says.

I don't think they "had it out" for anybody in their test.

 

They could release a little more info about their methodology, but it wouldn't matter. People would still pick it apart.

 

The data speaks for itself well enough. It's all their analysis, and posturing that leaves a bad taste. They make sure to prop up M.G.S. ally Snell with recognition for it's performance, and then brag on social media about how they're selling out following the release of the report. The self proclamation of, "this is the most important test, ever" and "power to the player" is gag-worthy.

 

The data itself at least seems like a decent place to start, if you were looking for a golf ball. Assuming you know your speed, and launch/spin tendencies, you could probably identify a handful of balls to test that are likely to be a relatively good fit. You've got to test on your own, though.

One with wheels, and a way to strap your golf bag on. I don't think it matters much.

 

I have a clicgear 3.5, but if I had to buy another cart right now, I'd get the caddytek that's essentially the exact same design, because it's cheaper.

Anyway. . .I have a caddy tek. Most guys here have a clic gear. They're very similar. I think you get more with the caddy tek for the same price. I've had my 4+ years and it has literally THOUSANDS of miles on it, gets folded up and unfolded 5 times a week, gets tossed around in the back of my hatchback. It's BOMB PROOF. I think the same can be said of clic.

 

I think at this stage, they're all good. I've never seen a guy with a push cart who is like, "my push cart sucks".

The BOMB PROOF was exactly what i'm looking for. I couldnt care less about the extras, i just dont want to have bits and pieces breaking regularly

Agree with all of this. Its the propping up or appeareance of something that leaves a bad taste. Snell had the M.G.S links/banner up on their site almost immediately after the study came out. Which in and of itself is fine. But M.GS always makes sure to hammer about how they dont take marketing sponsorship $$$ from big companies. OK so you wont take $100 from taylormade or titleist but you'll take $100 from snell - whats the difference in the end?

 

They end up churning out a lot of their own self-marketing jargon that is the main thing they claim to hate in the big OEMs.

 

Cartwise I think the Clic or Caddytek are the two most popular ones you will find these days. My Clic lasted five full seasons before it crapped out - although I beat the hell out of it too. If I hadnt gone electric, I would have just bought whatever the newest Clic was since all the accesories would have transferred over. But like City said, there probably arent any guys who have bought new carts in the last few years who hate them - they are all pretty good.

I'll definitely think real hard about one of those electric carts, when it comes time to replace the clic. It's so easy to do the hunch push, where you kind of round the upper back and lean into it. I have to be conscious about just standing upright and walking normally.

 

Which model do you have, DC? I "pushed it" AKA walked behind it for a couple holes at Northwest one time. I liked the simplicity of it. No remote. You just walk behind it, and turn it as needed.

I took Day after a very deep analysis that led me to conclude HE WON IT LAST YEAR and I HAVEN'T USED HIM.

 

Lots of Phil, too. I'm probably saving him for Pebble, but some guys definitely need to start thinking about zigging and/or zagging.

Agreed ... I believe M G S loves touting their data & I love trying to decipher it ... the portion I found most intriguing (or alarming) was their findings & opinions on how much "difference" between balls may cause errant shots

Caddytek/Costco updated theirs to that swivel design and bumped the price. Looks like they also redid the bag strap mechanism, at least up top. I have 2 of the previous models and I think that's what most Caddytek owners have as you used to be able to get them for $100 and occasionally less. Pick up this new version and let us know how it gets on.

I have I think one model year back of the Motocaddy M3 Pro. I was just talking to someone yesterday about it. Its nothing fancy, no remote control, no follow function - just push the putton and walk behind it. I didn't really want the remote option anyway tbh. But its really great on my back when I'm going up or down hills - or on long transfers its nice too. I wish my stand bag fit better on it but they are really made for their cart bags which in truth do fit much better and the pins on the bottom lock the back into the base of the cart.

I have never used a pushie with a swivel wheel, but I would probably not want one with a swivel wheel. Seems like more can go wrong with the mechanics of a swivel wheel than a fixed one. Might not last as long.

And all/most of the swivel wheel carts have a mechanism to lock it, because whenever you're pushing relatively straight (almost all the time), a swiveling wheel would be a hindrance. I can't think of a single time I've found myself wishing I had a swivel wheel. It's not a GD zero-turn lawnmower. The swivel wheel, IMO, is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, that only serves to create additional usage and durability issues.

I read a piece that said this tournament had one of the longest "first putt" distances, so you want good putters overall and good lag putter. J Day has probably been the best putter in the world for the last 5 years (well, except for Greg Chalmers). But, for players, it's Day and it's not really close. He's great to watch putt. I don't like his stroke as much as Rickies, but I like it a lot.

I'm going to pick and choose which pieces of M.G.S. analysis to agree with.

 

I feel very validated for my stance on playing the same ball all the time. I've long stated that which exact ball you play isn't super crucial, but that to really be as optimized as possible, you should at least pick one and play with it all the time.
