Pittsburgh Field Club is cool with a storied history (started as a cricket club) and dizzying elevation changes. I remember an elevator for walkers to get one from hole to a tee box!

Think Tillinghast, RTJ and Donald Ross and others collectively designed the course over a period of time.

Sunday we had the husband-wife championship and I think we ended up second gross - thankfully they only did one prize for gross lol. But I felt really good about the round. We had no shot at the net but we still ended up -4 net which we were happy with. I was ten shots better than I was on Saturday and 3/3 on bunker saves. But we still got belted with wind on our last two or three holes and at that point after two days in the wind, I was tapped out.

 

And by tapped out obviously I mean I played hooky yesterday and played 18 again. The fairways are really starting to pop and are playing amazing. There are still a few patches here and there that have to green up but they still play fine. Greens had been cut and rolled and were lightning quick. These little runs where we get rain and then 3-4 days of dry weather have been fantastic for the grass.

We're getting into good shape. It's been a good spring. The weather really cooperated with the punching schedule.

 

Best thing about the courses firming up : my wedge game. In particular partial wedges. I can't even believe how much easier it is to hit wedges off firm conditions. I've even switched back from my high bounce 58º to my 60º/04º. Such a versatile club. It was just impossible to use in water-logged conditions.

Agree, partial wedges for me can be very intimidating when the ground is soaking wet - IE the entire season last year.

Dont know if anyone watches some of the food/cooking shows that Netflix has like Chefs Table or Ugly Delicious but the producers of Chefs Table - also same guy/s who did Jiro Dreams of Sushi - have a new show out called Street Food. Really good first episode, definitely will watch more of it. The shows are just so well shot/scored, CT is great for anyone that hasnt watched it.

I watched the first episode and on Sunday afternoon, I fired up my kamado, put my wok in it with a bunch of oil and made Thai omelets. I used ground pork with my own spice/pepper mixture, but we're getting crab meat and I'm making them again.

 

They were a little ill-formed. My wok actually fits so well in the kamado that it cut off the air a little bit and the oil didn't get hot enough for the first one.

 

Her "cauldron" has an irregular lip that lets her put the wok on it and still leave room for air. I wouldn't be surprised if she had a blower for a bottom vent, too, even though it just looks like a bucket. She has to be pulling in air from somewhere.

I was stunned at how many people in our pool missed the cut - almost half of 330 people. I will go back through the list of who was on there but I think three of the top 5 most popular picks in our pool missed the cut. Which seems really hard in an event like that. I'm still tanking the rest of this segment in hopes of winning segment 3. Going with Zach Johnson this week.

I'd say Scott-Day, and Stanley-Finau accounted for the vast majority of those MCs.

Interesting news: TPC Potomac (aka Avenel) gets the Wells Fargo PGA Event in 2021, as Quail Hollow is hosting the President's Cup (q: Why does the PGA of American have such a hard on for Quail Hollow?).

 

It's actually a good move, tournament here in early May, as opposed to when AT&T and QL were here July, when it's eleventy billion degrees.

It's good that a tour event will be in DC, but two years is a long way off. My son was bummed when the Quicken Loans left. He wanted to be one of the sign carriers. He knew some boys who did it before. Two years from now he might be too old.

Seven people in our pool actually picked Kisner and not Scott Brown - must be saving Scotty for the John Deere.

You should 100% have to use BOTH golfers and get the money they both earn. It was a LOT harder to pull the trigger on Rahm/Palmer in my other league va in HBD league.
