The timeline is just suspicious.

 

Might never play again.

Videos of pitching at home.

Videos of hitting balls.

ZOMG HE'S BACK. And he's ROASTING the ball.

Plays a heavier schedule than he ever did during his prime years, and we see his speed tailing off noticeably.

Plays a bit more "normal" Tiger schedule to start the season. Ball striking savant at The Masters.

Video of him walking like he's 87 years old surfaces after The Masters.

He barely plays competitively, and talks constantly about needing breaks.

 

The current state of things is not unexpected. It's just hard to understand how it took him a year and change to get to this point. Of course, I have no idea what the "normal" recovery and expected outcome from a spinal fusion is. Getting worse over time, assuming one doesn't cause additional damage just seems odd.

 

He's proved more than once in his career that he can't be boxed in by anything though, so we'll see where he goes from here.

Just got back from a week in Maine. Family (12 of us) rented a house on a lake. Played golf one day with Dad and Bro.

 

Bro NEVER plays. He probably hasn't played in like 5 years. He's got a great move at the ball. Just doesn't generate power. If he wanted to, he could play. Dad has neuropathy in his legs from the cancer, but he manages it and shot a 93 from the red tees. Course was called Mingo Springs and it's basically built on a hillside and was completely dry. Playing off fairways was like playing off hardpan and I loved that. if the greens actually related to the course at all, it could be very cool. It actually had a linksy feel. But, the greens were mostly tiny soft green circles. Some had some movement. A lot were perched high up on hills and you couldn't hold if they weren't soft. You'd be laying ping pong all day.

 

There were holes where I'd hit over a blind bluff, land in the left rough, run about 50 yards and wind up in the right rough. Going by the card, I hit drives of roughly 350 yards. There was a 225 yard par 3 where I hit 4 iron over the green.

 

First hole. Green is perched WAY UP there. I hit a driver to the left and it ran to the right rough over the first hump.

Listened to a dr on the Golf Channel talk about the surgery a bit. He said you could live a 100% normal, pain free life after the surgery and a normal person could even get back to playing golf. But he said to put 100s of thousands of high impact golf swings on that same back in the course of a year was not necessarily what most normal people would do.

 

Agree with your timeline, it just seems odd. But on the other hand, I cant imagine him going into some sort of mode where he only ramps up for the Masters every year.

I wouldn't say it was awesome, but it was pretty cool. You could have a good event there.

 

It was funny. As we drove through Maine (and we were in the STICKS -- almost literally. We were in the paper mill towns) we noticed that almost every person was wearing camo trucker hat. At Mingo Springs, they had camo trucker hat with hunter orange logo on the front. They were sweet.

 

However -- for my own reasons -- i'm on a self-imposed two-month "don't buy anything" jag. Started on July 9th and it's been a month. Food and drink are OK, but I'm just not buying anything until September 9th. It's been interesting.

 

If it was actually a bucket hat and not a trucker hat, the temptation might have been too great.

TheCityGame in a camo trucker hat - I would've paid for the damn thing to see that on a golf course.

 

It looks like that course would be fun, if you put some interesting green complexes on it. Green shape doesn't necessarily mean much, but it is funny to look at the overhead of the course. There are maybe 2 greens that don't look like plain circles.

It was sweet. it was covered, and had an extra set of tires.

 

Camp was down a bunch of dirt roads. Northern maine is awesome except for bugs and the golf season being about 2 months long. But if you're into ice fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, skiing, etc. you could do a lot worse. Every car up there is either a subaru with kayaks on top or a dirty pick-up truck with a driver with a camo hat.

 

The lake house had a mounted moose head on the wall. It took my dog like 2 days to notice it, then he flipped out. it was hilarious. he was so ticked off at it. . .barking, growling, sort of scared of it.

Confirmed - my parents have two Subarus, both with kayak racks on top. They actually had to graduate this year to some sort of new rack system that has a hydraulic (?) assist to get them up there. To be fair they are both in their 70s and retired so I dont really want them trying to manhandle a couple of kayaks up on there.

Those RZR's are a ton of fun. A friend of mine came to visit recently and brought one...a 4-seater. Looks unstable and that it would turn over easily but that isn't the case. And it was fast! Reminded me of an old Honda Odyssey (the off road machine from the 80's, not the minivan) only with car-like controls.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce I cannot make the Hive Fourball. I'm sure that's why announced attendance so far is so low. The closest analogy I can make to this is Jay-Z pulling out of Woodstock 50, thereby singlehandly killing the event.

However, I will try my hardest to make the Hive championship at WoMan.

(commonly referred to you guys as Worthington Manor, which for some reason we have not come up with a Hive Approved Moniker (HAM) for, so I, Influencer that I am, have come up with WoMan. Let's get that trending. You're welcome.)

So you'll probably asking yourself, why would OCGolfRick make the effort to travel all the way to WoMan for this event? I'll tell you.

Because Sandbagger Sully must be stopped.

Listen, you low caps, you guys have your fun. Playing 4-5 times a week, changing clubs constantly, you deserve to be good players, go have a good time.

But the true workingman's champion, the people's champion- that's the 2nd flight low net guy. For those of us with real jobs, who get to play once a week or maybe just a quick range session- the FedEx drivers, the scientists, the guys stuck in an office all day, and yes, even those who Corporate America took away their WRX time and stuck in a windowless office- we have our own championship to play for.

And FOR TWO YEARS!!! Its been SANDBAGGER SULLY.

And I'm not saying that I'm going to be the guy to stop him, but that I will encourage others to do so. Much like the Dungeon of Doom was formed to stop Hulkamania, so I shall form the Hackers Alliance to stop the Sullying of our Championship.

So for all of us hackers, the ones who try our best but still can't shake having 2-3 shanks a round, or slicing every shot off the planet, this is our time. The DaveChen, the Lil Chen, the Golfer827, the Aiyyer, the Ram, the SeaBass, and all others..this is our moment. Seize this chance to win our title from the tyranny of Sandbagger Sully.

Get out there and practice. Everytime you chunk a chip, or leave a putt 8 feet short, take it as a learning experience for WoMan. And should things get tight on the leaderboard on Sunday, let's make that pact that it should be one of us who wins, and not have a 3x champion. Remember, you don't HAVE to help look for a guys ball when he hits it offline. You don't HAVE to move your ballmark if he asks, make him play him stymie.

Bring it home boys, make the championship truly one for us. Hackers Unite!
