I'm not trolling. I was born in MD, and have lived in MD for 27 of my 32 years on this planet.

 

It's tough to have a discussion when the counterpoints consist entirely of name-calling.

 

Yes, the NHL is the major league for hockey. Lets call the Stanley Cup a major sports title, and burn me at the stake for poor choice of words.

 

My point was more so that the NHL still lags well behind the NFL, MLB, and NBA, in terms of popularity in the US.

 

The Stanley Cup averaging below 5mil viewers/game over the past 10 years.

 


 

 

The World Series looks like it's averaging about triple that.

 


 

 

The NBA finals average at least triple the Stanley Cup.

 


 

 

The Super Bowl, especially since it's a single game, is in a complete league of it's own.

 


 

 

I think estimates put the average value of an MLB, or NBA franchise at a solid 3x the average NHL franchise. Again, the NFL is the elephant in the room, at more like 4x.

 

I bet NCAA basketball and football generate more viewership and interest than the NHL does.

 

The caps winning was cool. I played hockey as a kid. I like hockey.

 

A World Series is just a tier, if not multiple tiers above, IMO.

Look, it's common sense to know baseball is more popular than hockey in the US. That just doesn't automatically make the NHL less of a major sport. Yes the parade will be bigger for the Nats, but WHO CARES?

 

You said the Stanley Cup doesn't qualify as a major sports title. That is just plain wrong. Doesn't matter what graphs you put up to back up whatever weird flex you're trying to make.

I took one for the team and had 3.5 liters of some hefeweizen from 6:30-11:30. Then my new best friends whom I never met before pulled me in for a shot of tequila with them a few minutes after the final out. Hugs were had. Incredible night in DC and cool to be a part of.
