P790 are letting me down.

I've got about 40 rounds on my P790s and they remain the best clubs I have ever played with. I love mine!

agree on all accounts .. I didnt mean to make my post mostly about turf interaction... My main point was the obvious gap from 7 iron to 8 iron ... talked at length with the TM rep about it and he quietly admitted it was an issue for folks who hit their irons consistently ...He said he had some success getting guys to bend the 7-3 irons weak and the 8-aw strong..But it didnt work for my pal... He still nuked the 7 and hit higher and shorter shots with the 8. For reference he plays to a 2 with jpx900 with px LZ graphite...so should have been comparable enough to work. We asked the question to the rep- "why on earth did they stop the tungesten and slot at the 7 ? why not through the whole set "... his response.. " i dont know... but i bet they next gen has it sorted out "....

 

I've had this type of issue with other TM irons. Didn't learn my lesson with my first set of Burner 2.0. Loved them until I started to hit a few well-struck balls 20 yards over the green. Had a mixed set of Tour Preferred CB,MC irons. 8-PW were forged and beautiful irons. 7 is cast and had the slot. 20 yard gap between 7 iron and 8 iron. Another 20 yard gap between the 7 iron and 6 iron. I don't trust that they will ever sort it out.

I can’t seem to work these irons at all. I went from Nike Vapor Pro combos to these. I really wanted the 790s to work out, but I just don’t hit them well. I’m sure I’m going to put my Vapor Pro Combos back in the bag.

I just bought the new 2023 p790s and lost a ton of distance. I barely get 105 from my pw, with my stealth irons, I’m averaging 135. I barely got the 7 iron 137 compared to my stealth 7 iron, I get around 165. I did get them from Taylormade with the same lie specs from my stealth irons, 3 degrees up and using same shafts, project x io 5.5g shafts.

I know this is an old post but how many people are being let down by the new 23' P790's as I have been hearing the same thing about these too. Some like the previous model better as the only major change is internally which isn't making much difference really at all. I don't know about the mid to higher handicapper golfer it might but I anxiously waited for this new release and decided to pass only because I went with GI irons and very glad I did.

Get the lofts on both models checked and see if they compare.

3* weaker lofts and reduced offset.  It's not an inherent flaw in the club design, probably just need to adapt your swing to the changed specs.
