2019 Phoenix Area Course Conditions

Haha. Good stuff fellas. My wife likes to ride along with me and she hates houses. Lol.

 

SHE wants to play (ride) TPC. I have never played and may try it just to say I played it. Legend Trail is right up there after reading reviews on here. Quintero is one I want to play, but it’s a haul from Gilbert.

Quintero is beautiful and typically in fantastic shape. The knock is that many of us find the course to be largely repetitive and lacking in strategy. Kind of like a super hot girl at the bar who makes you want to punch her in the face once you start talking to her.

 

I think everyone should play it once... Just no staying power for me personally.

If we were going to sub out Troon North Monument.....are there any other CANT MISS courses? Looking to We-ko-pah views anda course in great shape. Day 1 Grayhawk. Da3 Wekopah. Day 2 taking suggestions

I would play Quintero. Views are fantastic, conditions will be perfect. I personally like it an make a point to play it every summer when the rates are reasonable.

Quintero, Southern Dunes, Verde River, Verrado, for the visitor Boulders is an option

Played Whirlwind Cattail this morning. Was in great shape 2 & 3 weeks ago...stay away for now. They slit the fairways and small tine punched the greens. Greens were not rolling true. Definitely bouncing and some bad breaks that affected putts. Some burnt out spots, sand on the greens, and brown dirt mounds. Needs at least 2 weeks and some TLC. Pics below show slits in the fairways and my 340+ yd bomb on #16 (humble brag).

I talked to the cart kid and he had heard Devil's Claw is in better shape. I know it had a tough start after it opened from maintenance. Majority of people playing were playing Devil's Claw, we had no idea Cattail had just reopened from punching until we talked to the starter and saw the practice green (kind of annoying).

There is no excuse for them not telling you. Southern Dunes for the troubles they had with their greens at the beginning of the summer sent an email each time explaining the greens were not up to their standard. How hard is it to just communicate honestly.

Thanks for the info! Really enjoy both Camelback courses and glad to hear they are in good summer shape. I will definitely be playing there soon but headed to Champs in the morning for $49 and lunch on the house!

Right? The girl checking us in didn't say a word. We're at the course, you have our money, just tell us what's up. We were a twosome. If they said Cattail was punched and conditions were iffy. maybe tell us the tee sheet on Devil's Claw and we go play that course. After seeing the practice green was punched, I had to ask the starter if Cattail was punched too. Not the best customer service for a couple hardcores out playing in 105 degrees.

Mountain shadows yesterday. Still a very fun layout. Course conditions were below average. We got stuck behind a slow 3 ball.

Played Raven yesterday. Course in nice shape. Lots of nice fairway lies. Tee boxes all nice. Greens received shots well and speed was good, sandy underneath but didn't show on top. Sand was thin but playable with low bounce 60 deg.

 

An aside, this was my first time playing Raven. I generally prefer to walk, and I walked it. Not a good walking course.

Thanks for feedback. I have never been a fan of that course, but my friend wants to play there.

TPC Champions is in GREAT summer shape especially after their shutdown for maintenance and clubhouse renovation. Went off mid morning and played right at a 4 hour pace. Be sure to look online for their summer special of $49 with lunch and a drink included.

Cholla is in really good shape...greens a bit slow but roll perfect. Lies everywhere are perfect.

Ambiente in decent summer condition. Greens a little bumpy and it did affect some putts but I wouldn't hesitate to play. Fairways mostly good, just a few browned out spots. There were quite a few roped off areas where they didn't want carts and a couple non-par 3 cart path only holes.

Papago is getting better after brutal conditions 3 weeks ago. Another 2 weeks and it should be prime for rest of the summer.

Raven is in amazing shape! I don’t like that course at all, but it was in great shape today. Boring...don’t help when the guys your paired with shot 240 combined. No thanks,
