CPO stinks, and I'm not very bright

They upgraded my very good putter to like new and it had a bunch of scratches on the slant neck. I sent pictures and they said "that would qualify as like new". It was better than the POS they sent me that was supposedly VG, so I just accepted it. Of course, these are used, not new, clubs, so got to factor that into the equation.

Absurd, I'd refuse that solution. They're dead to me

My, my...there is no pleasing some folks nowadays is there? You are buying pre-owned correct? If you want new, buy new. I'm sure none of the OP clubs have any marks on them after a season or even month of use, or do they?

I have had only one less than expected quality issue with CPO, and they made it right, and I was being a little too picky given was a pre-owned, aka used (or shop worn) club.

Look for Outlet condition, about as good as gets without being new, though Like New I've purchased several that were still in shrink wrap.

OP here- to answer your question, if I listed a club in BST as 'like new' it would be flawless.

I recently bought a Rogue driver and 3 wood from CPO in Like New condition and they arrived with plastic still on them. Maybe I've been lucky but I've always gotten new clubs from the Like New condition.

So... here's an odd situation. Nearly a year ago (May 2018), I bought a set of Mizuno JPX 850 Forged irons on CPO. Condition was fine, I like the irons fine. I've never been GREAT with them, but I assumed that was just my problem. They were advertised as standard length and lie.

However, just today after doing some comparison hitting at Golf Galaxy, I noticed something strange: my clubs were a bit longer than the sets I compared them to. I got home and measured and and my clubs are all half an inch or 3/4 inch long (depending on how you measure). They're definitely not standard length, as the listing said. This probably isn't helping my game as if anything I would want my clubs 1/4 inch short.

I'm planning on getting my shafts chopped down to standard length. Obviously, this is going to cost me money. I'm guessing I have no recourse with CPO, right? I mean, I realize that it's my fault for not spotting the problem for 8 months. Still, it's a bit annoying that the clubs were listed incorrectly.

Maybe they'd throw me a few grips?

UPDATE: I was measuring incorrectly. Still think they might be .25 inches short of the JPX 850's specs, but they're actually standard length for the 919. Not worth getting worked up about.

When I lived in Austin I used them a lot - especially in the old days when they let you drive over and pick up. Someone decided the riff-raff were a security issue so you had to ship inside the same city. Once I got a right hand shaft in left hand club and they said to ship it back. UPS was literally across the street and I was headed out of town so I drove to UPS center and told them they could save a lot of time by walking the package across the street. They were always good about making sure any issues were fixed.

Not being snarky, but what is a right handed shaft?

There are left-handed and right-handed OEM adapters. Works for either handed player. If you have a left-handed adapter for a right-handed player you'll have to reverse the settings. So, use the "higher" setting to decrease loft and vice a versa.

With today's adjustable woods, shafts come with certain settings that can be tweaked for loft, draw bias, etc. The adapters are different for RH and LH, as the adjustment needs to go in a different direction for lefties and righties. To be frank, as a lefty, I find this to be a minimal hassle for Callaway and Ping adapters, a hassle for Taylormade adapters, and a big issue for Cobra's adapter.

By way of example, if I use a RH adapter [shaft] with a Callaway wood, then I need to set it up for my preferred setting, and then turn the settings around to the exact opposite side. Easier to understand when you have the Callaway adapter in front of you.

Edit: looks like vaporz just beat me to the punch...

Since I don’t stand on the “wrong side” of the ball I will blame my right hand privilege for my ignorance. Thank you for the enlightenment...really glad I qualified my first question so as to not sound like an Word not allowedhat

Sometimes I am glad my first thoughts don’t roll off my fingertips. I have tinkered with adjustable clubs but still play fixed shafts and probably wouldn’t have even considered it an issue til now. And I used to think lefties problems ended at desks in school...who knew. Thanks

Yeah, so any lefties just double check your settings on some drivers. I believe some adapters are marked differently for left-hand but I try different settings over a bucket of balls to dial in new second hand drivers/shafts combos. I'm sure a lot of sellers and buyers get mixed up second hand shafts these days.
