Proper setup-Do lie boards lie?

I was recently fit at CC and they ultimately have me in slightly more upright irons base off lie board strikes. I decided to give it a try and hard the irons built to spec. I just received them so now curious about setup. Do I adjust my stance so they are fully soled or do I take my normal stance with the toe slightly up? I've always played standard lies so this is a bit new

Shaft droop at impact makes the clubs less upright. Depends the shaft and your swing to figure out how much. Not a fan of lie boards either, they can lie.

well the idea is that you don’t do anything different. so assuming you have the same exact posture it may look a little different at address and the goal is that it is also different (and better) at impact because of the equipment adjustments using your swing and your existing posture. if you change your posture and swing to make your new clubs sit the same (and have the same impact position) then you have just nullified the benefit of the adjustment.

For me, not fully soled and toe slightly lifted at address. If the hands are higher at impact then address, the club sole should naturally flatten.

Except for golfers deliberately trying to hold the angle thru impact, your shaft angle at impact will be at least four degrees higher at impact than it was at address. Hence, you always address the ball toe up.

Interesting post from TXG today. I am much like Ian. I fight a hook, was fit into some pretty stout shafts to mitigate it. On the lie board I had a pretty consistent toe-down strike and thus the fitter recommended getting my irons upright to even out the strike. They recommended 2-3* up...that seemed extreme to me so I ordered them just 1* up. Perhaps a toe down strike isn't that big of a deal?

Lie boards can be off. On lie boards I'm standard or 1 upright.

 

When measured at TM Performance lab I actually need 2-3 flat. They do it with cameras and measure how toe up club is at impact, which is much better IMO.

Yeah that was the interesting part of the video. They are using QCquad so they can measure dynamic lie. To get a "flat" strike they need to bend the iron 4* upright. Bend them that much and it shuts the face and introduces a huge hook

Exactly this. Easy to do yourself at any grass range. Even on the course.

Contact tape on the face is better than a lie board IMO.

If contact is repeatedly on the heel, you probably need to go flatter and vice versa.

Lie boards, divots, even face impact location -  NONE of them are reliable.

If you want accurate assessment then use the dry erase marker line on the ball method.     Also some the Launch Monitors that track club data can give lie angle data - but even with one of those, I'd still put more trust in the dry erase marker.

Understanding ball flight and how the swing effects the ball flight must be part of the process...

NOT, oh you are marking towards the toe of the sole so therefore we are going to make it more upright...
