From 917D2 to TS2

That rep just wanted to sell you the newest club. The 917 was not terrible, as a matter of fact center hit for center hit the 917 as well as most of the newer offerings were similar in terms of ball speed. Only thing it lacked and I'm not saying it isn't crucial for most was there was greater loss of ball speed not hit in the center. That is the main thing they corrected in the TS line. Off center strikes maintain good ball speed now and it's more in line with some of the other drivers out there.

If you 'just found the right shaft' then why switch? If you switch heads, the shaft will become moot and the spin and etc will change slightly so you may need a different shaft...

I tested a ts2 against my 917d2 and there wasnt much there to be honest. Granted the hzrdus smoke shaft that I tried doesnt fit me to well. And I'm playing my d2 heavy at 206 grams without adapter. I'll have to go back and try with the same shaft in both and hopefully same headweight. But im pretty happy with the d2. Otherwise I use a 910d3 that's stacked with lead tape lol.

In years past, Titleist drivers fell behind the bombers.  I was told by reputable outfit ts line gets them back in the conversation.  I might give the ts2 a whirl.  Be a tall order to beat my ltd pro though.

I made the mistake of selling my 917 fairway woods, which I assumed would be trumped by the TS3/TS2 models. Nope. I'm OK with my TS3 3 wood but my experiment with the TS2 7-wood was a failure. The 917 was much better. Sat more square. Shape of the head was better. Feeling off the face was less ting-y. The 917 line of fairway woods was LEGIT, and there are still a lot of Titleist players using them over the TS line. The TS drivers are a different story. Hands down better than the 917. The 917 driver felt great and was accurate, but the TS does all of that plus adds substantial increases in balls speed. Still not a fan of the glossy black head (it looks cool but it's impractical) or the 45.50 stock length (I play it 45.00 with added head weight), but I'm very happy with my TS3 driver overall. Nothing has touched it, and I have hit everything.

Honestly I enjoyed one of my best driving seasons with 917D2 last year.  It was accurate for me and acceptably long.  TS3 is getting my spin down to more optimal levels now though.  917D2 was a bit spinny, but very gameable for me.

I love that comment from the Rep. The 917 line was so bad that Spieth, JT and countless other pros had it in their bag. Then you look at the Crossfield reviews, not that anyone respects his opinions that much, and how much more is he getting from his TS3 over his old 917.

Here's what I know about the 917, many people could not get the spin down and ball speed off the face was not great. I've been told it was a fairway finder from most people and that is what Titleist was going for. With the TS series Titleist changed that.

I own the TS2 customized by Titleist. Originally fitted for 10.5 C4 setting +2 back weight with Fujikura Speeder TS 74 at 44.5". At the time he fitted me for my bad swing (it was bad) and I needed to find more fairways. I've dropped 70lbs since last June and he told me that my swing WOULD change and that I might need to come see him to redial the settings and specks

I have worked on my swing and I'm another 15lbs down; Now and the spin is a bit high and I'm losing distance. I've moved it back to A-1 to lower the spin, I May drop to D1 just to see what happens. The shaft is fine maybe extend it back to 45.5 and maybe go with a standard or -2 or -4 weights to get the spin down. I know I can get more distance from my swing, I hit a 10.5 Epic Flash the other day and was carrying my driver by 12 yards. I'll stick with the TS2 and won't be making changes blindly though I'll go back to Paul to check the actual numbers.
