Noticed on the leaderboard that Thidapa Suwannapura is now going by Jasmine (which is her English nickname). Maybe an attempt to stop the mis-pronunciation of her name?

Picking Jess, Aza and SHP this week at the ANA.

Looking for forward to the 1st major or the year as well as the Women’s Augusta Amateur event. Swung through Augusta on the way home from a March spent in Florida and could have played Champion’s Retreat had it not been for the women’s amateur...but still glad to have it taking place.

Assuming this is Brit L? She was on with Katrak and McGinnis this week talking about her impending Motherhood, how pregnancy has changed her swing, she's lost a bit of distance, her different swing feel, how her sponsors either stuck with her fully or are giving her 1/2 her fees based on a 6 event season, etc. She also said she hasn't had a sick moment at all, no cravings for anything wacky, etc.

Why didn’t Lexi go for that par five in two. Thought they said this caddie keeps her aggressive, that was exact opposite. Almost cost her a bogey.

Greens certainly don’t look like they’re 12.5 on TV. Rough looks nasty.

Great approach by Lexi on 18. Very nice round. Jin Young and Lydia playing well.

 

Love the tough conditions and moderate scoring.

She actually had a decent round going until her bogie, double bogie finish. I would normally say something about her hitting 3 wood, but she did manage to average 284 yds off the tee today. 'Good enough I'd say.

Doubling the Par 5 really hurts, the margins are so small from being at the top of the leaderboard just a couple bad holes. Like a few of the top players, Ariya is just slightly off nothing really bad with her game just not firing on all cylinders.

 

On a side note everyday I seem to get a little more function with the site and my browser, I can now like posts lol

My favorite ladies tournament to watch. Have played this course twice and don't know that I've ever putted on better greens.

'Wonderful start to the tournament. The course is playing tough, but fair. Plenty of birdie opportunities, but also opportunities for bogie or worse. There's a good mix of players at the top of the leaderboard, including some well known players, as well as a few newcomers. The cut is currently projected at +3, but even these players are only 7 shots off the lead. 'Anything can happen at this point. I think patience is the word for the week.

Just me or was Kang not happy with Kerr on 14?

Of the 15 players that are at -2 or better, only 5 of them tee off in the morning tomorrow. I.e. of the better rounds shot today (Round 1) most of them were in the morning. Will be interesting to see if some of this reverse tomorrow and players a few more back (notably SHP and Brooke) move up tomorrow. Alternatively, someone going off early tomorrow could push/stretch the 36 hole lead a bit.

 

Definitely agree anything is still possible. But the player at +3 probably need to shoot in the 60s tomorrow to reasonably get back into it. Unfortunately, So Yeon's game still looks like a mess (driving accuracy way down) and Chun seems to be having issues with hole #18 + water.

 

This type of scoring is great. Someone could shoot a great round on Sunday (65 or whatever) and actually have it hold up if others shoot even. Most of the time (both tours), the leaderboard needs to be dramatically adjusted (at least mentally) halfway through Sunday, as adding -3 or -4 shots is typically normal for those that are going off late.

I think it will depend on the wind in the afternoon I think, the morning will score cause everything will be calm. The wind kicked up pretty good this afternoon will be interesting to see if the condition are similar tomorrow afternoon. If the wind stays down then early/late tee will have a slight advantage IMO.

The winds will likely be calmer tomorrow, 6 - 7 mph in the morning, and only 11 - 12 mph in the afternoon.

There are a lot of American players who get totally black balled by the GIC (golf-industrial complex), and thus are more or less nonexistent to the golf watching public; Ally McDonald is one of them. Beth Allen is another.

I accept that there is bias in golf journalism. 'Some players will get coverage regardless of how they're playing. However, for the most part the players playing the best are going to grab the spotlight. Nelly has had a lot of coverage this year, rightfully so.

 

Ally has three top tens in 3+ years and 54 events. Yawn. Forgive me for not getting overly worked up about her "snub".

 

Beth Allen? Has she made a cut in any of the LPGA events she's played?

My point is simply that we know nothing about these players whenever they do pop up on a leaderboard. Would be nice to have been introduced to Ally McDonald at some point on a telecast. I know plenty about Alison Lee and she is a marginal player too.
