COBRA L4V - The BOMB!!!!

ROBOPTI

Recommended Posts

Well I put a Project X 6.0 in the L4V X head and ......................... this has to be the lowest launching/spinning combo I've ever used. I'm going to reshaft because I need to get it higher in the air than this for sure. I've never had a driver I launched this low. Anyone else experience this? robopti, any thoughts?

Anyone have any experience with a Harrison Saga shaft in this head? Going to experiment around as this is STILL the best driver ever made IMO.
Years ago, when Saga first came out. I requested it tipped a full inch and I had in the 9* L4V-F head. It was still too high for my liking (compared this to the protopype). However, it may work better for you.

Will a Voodoo XVS6 spin the ball less than a Protopype 60gm stiff in an L4V head???? Currently spinning ball at 4500 rpms and need to get that down. What do you think about that combo????

Today, went to local golf shop that was having a Callaway club fitting. Callaway was there with the tour launch monitor that is used to fit tour players. I brought along my Cobra L4V X driver - 9 degree - Aldila Protopype 60gm stiff shaft. I have noticed that recently I have not been getting the distance that I have wanted out of my driver. Dont get me wrong, the L4V is sweet, but with new technology, I wanted to add distance.

He told me that I was spinning the ball way too much. Average distance was 250yards on the monitor.

After trying multiple drivers with no success, he fit me with the FT Tour driver 9.5 with an x-stiff VooDoo shaft. Using that combo, I was hitting the ball on the middle of that face and right down the middle with about 1000 less rpm spin. My spin rate came down and my total yard average was 275.....a 25 yard gain. All the other Callaway drivers with stock shafts I was pulling left, and hooking left and hitting off the heel. He also inserted a Protopype X-stiff into a Callaway Razr Hawk head....I was hitting it dead straight but I was spinning that too much as well.

Then, he told me something very interesting. He ask me what ball I was playing. Currently, I use Pro V1 practice balls. He said never use practice balls because they spin more that regular balls (never heard that before). So, I was hurting myself because the ProV1 practice balls spin more than the Regular ProV1. He also said that at my swing speed, paying $45 a dozen is not worth it. I should used a mid range ball. He stated that all the mid range balls are better then the upper end balls from 2 years ago.....so he suggested the HX Diablo Tour. But, he also said that Bridgestone's mid level tour ball is good too.

My question is...has anyone ever heard that the practice balls spin more?????????? Also, what mid level ball spins the least off the driver????? If I put a Voodoo XVS6 shaft in my L4V will it get the spin down???? I'm gonna try the Diablo Tour today and see what its like.

Absolutely SMASHING the L4V again.

Selling off the other drivers as we speak, still nothing can compare with this thing. Not the longest driver, but definitely the straightest. And i'll give up 10 yards to hit 80+% of the fairways. :partytime2:

This thread cracks me up. 120+ pages on THIS driver. I have hit many a driver, and know many a good player, and if there is one thing we all agree on it is that the LV heads are some of the highest spinning, worst performing heads we have ever hit. How on earth is it that THIS driver gets a 120+ page thread? I just don't get it. I don't mean to thread crap, but know I have. Sorry. Its just my golfing opinion.

Indeed. I tried all sorts of awesome shafts and the thing still spun too much to beat out many many other heads.

I will say that for people that don't mind the higher spin it is very forgiving and accurate. I dare say the big headweight (208 gram average) brought some swings under control as well.

About to pull the trigger on a proforce V2 shaft to swap out of the original diamana stiff shaft that came with this club. I'm just wondering if there are any other shafts for around $50 that I should consider. My brother-in-law has titleist 910d2 with a diamana kai'li shaft that I hit pretty well over the weekend. Just wondering how that shaft would work in the l4v or if I should just stick with the proforce v2. Overall, I like the results that I've had with the l4v, but would like a shaft that is a little lower launching.

I just reshafted my X with a Harrison Saga. This is the best driver I have ever had. Drove it on a short par 4 and pin high to another. Apart from the beast factor, I was more impressed by how easy it is to control. Didn't wipe a single shot off the map. Time to offload my 910D3 now.

Any input from the guys who were going to try the Nunchuk in this? I'd love to hear how that went as I have a 'Chuk that would go to about 44-44.5" in one. I have a 10.5 L4V-M on the way. I've had a lot of success with the Nunchuk in a 10.5* SZ 440.
