Datagolf.com had him about equivalent to an average tour pro at the time he went pro in Sept 2019. That’s about equal to where Sargent, Aberg and Thornbjorsen are now. All three of those guys seem like they could make the leap if they wanted to.

Sargent is 19, Thornbjorsen is 21 and Aberg is 23. Two of those kids shouldn't be in college at this point.

Never agreed with his choice to skip college, but he is doing his thing.  It was awesome watching him yesterday.

I didn't think he stood a chance against Rahm and Finau, but it was fun watchin him play and he seemed to have held his own for the most part.

 

I think I heard them say on the broadcast he's 21 now? I would think now is about the time he would have been transitioning to a professional if he had decided to go to college.

 

I don't know if you could say he made the right choice by not going to college, but at least it appears he didn't make the wrong one. Plus, he's made some money that should help finance the immediate future.

I watched a little bit yesterday. I would agree that he didn't look like he stood a change against Rahm or Finau. That being said, the dude now has made this much in Tour winnings (excluding any sponsorship money he may be making):

 

2021-22 Season: $258K

2022-23 Season: $988K

 

Trend line on the way up for the young guy.

Many don't wait until they graduate to join pga tour. For example Speith got All American honors his freshman year and they won NCAA title that year, he decided midway into sophomore year that he would get sponsors exemptions based on his previous results so went pro.

I agree 100% I thought he might shoot around +3 or so and hopefully get a top 10.  Seems lately the newbies are paired with Rahm or Scotty and they melt away. 

 

He passed the eye test on TV IMHO.  My wife asked if he has been on TV before and I was like we watched him play the US Junior AM.

 

He would be a Junior going into his Senior year next year so definitely ahead of schedule.  Just happy for the guy.

He played well on that stage for sure.  He drives it good enough to be successful on the big tour and his approach game/iron game is really strong.  The putting and short game are the question at this point.  He putted better than usual in the early rounds but missed several good opportunities on the greens yesterday.  On the positive said, that's a good indicator of how solid the rest of his game is to still finish 4th.

Ahead of schedule?  Whose schedule? Or would have been held back by the college structure?

Well he couldn't have been on temp membership and in the final group on a Sunday if he was a raising Senior.  That was my only point.

I followed him a bit last week while he played. He pounds it but has a miss of over slices on too many drives. Once he has any momentum on the leaderboard, he starts missing too many drives with over slices.

To bad they aren't giving him the 300 Fedex cup points.  Would've put in for sure in the playoffs, but only getting the points while temp member.
