I was lucky enough to play the Robert Trent Jones Course in Northern Virginia. With the fall leaves changing color and the incredible scenery it was truly one of the best experiences of my golfing life. I found the course incredibly fair - it's very apparent where you need to hit the ball. Yet it's quite a challenge with some very tricky greens and thick rough.

I'll let the pictures do the talking - the weather was perfect and the course conditions were just as good.

It looks like the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. I remember it from the Presidents Cup competitions. I think it was the site of the "Tiger who?" cap incident.

It's about 30 mintues away from DC depending on traffic. :rolleyes:

 

Also, you can see in some of the pictures just how low the lake is - even that far north, Lake Manassas has lost about 8-10 feet over the summer drought.

 

With the wildfires in California and the turmoil in the world I think the water crisis in the South East is getting shuffled to the back. My thoughts are with the people in Georgia, Alabama, and North Florida who are enduring water rationing and counting the days until their water table dries up.

I've played the parking lot you can see across the water......but never RTJ. Sadly, the course across the water is the closest I've come to hitting a golf shot at RTJ.

First, you take half the summer off and play all the "Old" courses in Scotland :D , and now you take the fall off and are playing the top East Coast Courses....I know, I know, it's a tough job of giving course reviews but someone has to do it. :yahoo:

What a beautiful layout. Those par 3's look excellent, and I would hate to not bve accurate with my irons on the day I would play that course. The amount of sand around the greens is crazy.

You played it during the absolute best time of the year. RTJ's always perfect during the fall. Too bad the lake is down so much, takes something away from the holes along the lake. #11 used to be absolutely stunning, now all the dead, brown area around it really detracts from it's beauty. Still a great hole, though!

 

I hope you got a chance to walk and that you had a good caddie. I grew up working out there and still go back out from time to time. Was the range big enough for you? :rolleyes:
