FJ Classics vs FJ Icon Black vs ???

Recommended Posts

I use to wear footjoy classics, looking to see how people compare them to the Black Icons that are available. I recently got a pair of dryjoys, which are really nice but they aren't Classics.

Is the construction and materials used on par with the classic dry premieres??? Leather sole with rubber???

And what other shoes out on the market would be similar to the classics?

I wore the Classics for years and now wear the Icon Blacks. Both are great shoes but to me the Icon Blacks are much better. First they're lighter and the sole isn't full leather (only two small leather inserts on TPU). Second the Icon Blacks have fast twist spikes vs steel screw-in spikes for the Classics. I never noticed it before but now when I wear the Classics I feel the thread of the steel spikes pushing on my feet. Not painful at all but something I notice. All in all the Icon Blacks are much less maintenance than the old Classics. No worries about stepping on wet grass or puddles, and never worrying about spikes coming unscrewed. There was an earlier post saying Footjoy is canceling this shoe but I hope it isn't true. Last of a great shoe line.

Could not agree more. I was devastated when they discounted Classics and stocked up on them which last me for a couple while before moving to the Icons. When the Icon Black came out, it was amazing. They upper was as close as I have ever come to something the same as the Classic and while the lining of the shoe was not an all leather affair, the cork fit bed is brilliant. Just so so comfortable. Perfect blend of the classic look of the Classics but with the added benefit of more comfort. Definitely a win win.

I’m not sure there were that many bigger classic fans them me. I think I was sitting on mid 30s- 40ish pairs of classics.

Tried the icon black and they were ok. Got a couple of Callaway Tour Authentic out of England which I liked better then the icon.

Once I found the G/fore gallivantor I have not looked back. Probably one of the most comfortable golf shoes I have worn. Style will be more of a classic type vs a Nike type shoe. I think I’m up to about half a dozen pairs.

Only issue is the treads can pack a bit, but do provide really good grip for a spikeless. I love mine

What's the point of having 40 pairs of golf shoes?

Duke

different pairs for different reasons or times.

Had a bunch of different color combos, different styles, etc. there was also a shop I would visit that would sell their classics at 50% off during the off-season for them. After some years your collection grows and the old classics never really wore out.

Was just my thing - maybe still is but with g/fore going forward.

I prefer Footjoy Classics with leather soles. I feel I have a more stable base with the leather soles compared to the soles of the Footjoy Icon. I just retired a pair of FJ Icons and have 3 pairs of FJ Classics (soon a 4th) in the show rota. I wear 12 EEE so finding a pair on eBay is difficult and patience is needed. For those with standard width a new or slightly used pair of FJ Classics can be easily found. If I only had a D width!!!

May have to finally try some Icons - I had some nice looking DryJoy custom Tours, and started out loving them, but honestly after they got worn quite a bit they started squeaking badly in the heel and it really fried me. Probably could have sent them back, but didn't want to take a chance on another pair assembled in China - guessing the Icons are truly of higher quality?

The icons on my joys are great and are very high quality, take care of them and you will have them a while. The last is different on the blacks. I am a 10.5M and the blacks don’t fit me as well and certainly not right out of the box like the icon saddles. I am sure footjoy or someone can explain the last differences
