Wassup? I just got back from shooting a 117 Worst round I've had since I started playing golf. Everything absolutely stunk, except that I hit a few good drives.

 

What should I do to cope and recover?

Think about what you did wrong and what you need to do and then forget about the round completely. It happens every now and then.

to shot a number like that after you had played on course is not unusual but should be avoided if you have good course management.

most likely, you had a few blow up holes resulting in very high numbers for those holes,

caused by poor decision making ( course management ).

golf is like life, you're smart enough to figure out what happened and what course of action to take to avoid it from happening again.

just go out as soon as you can and if you are really a .8 handicap u should be able to recoupe from the masacre (spelling?) the best way to combat a bad score is to go out and shoot a good one to show that u still have it in you. It was probably just a fluke.

what track ? I have to figure you were not even trying because you claim a 0.8 handicap . I've never shot that high in my life even when I was a 20+...

wow thats crazy. i've never heard of a .8 handicap shooting that high. what happened? must be the irons i've got the same once and i played awful today.

HOW? unless it was oakmont or kiawah in 50 mph conditions what happened for an 0.8 handicap im pretty sure that should be impossible especially if you hit a few good tee shots , worst round i shot this year was a 95 in a champions tournament, had to get up at 445 in the morning, ferry ride, course i had never played before, OB everywhere and in about 6 degrees celsius with 30 kmh winds and pouring rain, add to that had played once in a month and was hitting a huge slice, i do not know how you shot that

I have learned a lot from my triple digit rounds...not to score that high again!!!

My scores weren't THAT high this golf season, nothing over 95 (I'm an 8.8 ...) :bb2:

 

But really, take some time off, just like idiotbox said. I took about 3 weeks off after the season ended and came back to the course and shot 81 (44-37) with a great back nine.

I would take some time off as well. I cant see someone that has a .8 handicappe shoot that if they wanted to. That is like an average of 7 on every hole. Not to add insult to injury but time off is def something you need to do.

So, in the big picture of scores and rounds, courses, life, history, etc... it really doesn't matter. I would play again asap to get that bad stuff out of the system, just be sure to hit a few at the range first...

I don't know what you should do, but I think a good start would be removing the russian roulette joke from your post. Teen suicide is not a joking matter.

Play again as soon as you can and use it as a reminder for future rounds when you get off to a bad start. So, if you are like +8 after 5 holes, then you can remember that 117 and try to save your round and shoot like 82 or better. I was playing in a college tournament, where I made a 7 on Par 4 and an 11 on a Par 5. It was my first 2 holes and I was already +9. I went -2 under on my next 16 holes to shoot 79. 2 other kids in my group shot 81 an 83, and they had no idea I was beating them.

First of all, I commend you for recording all shots. As some who I play with, they only record a double-par and stop at that even if they haven't finished the hole. So they end up breaking 100 even if the actual count is probably 120 or more. I don't like to play that way.

 

Anyway, how to cope/recover? My question is did it affect you a lot such that you lost confidence or whatever?

 

My suggestion is to treat this as if it was your very first round of golf, and then try to break and hit your normal score. That way, you'll treat your next round's score as a huge improvement.

 

Does it make sense? Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the comments and advice. I don't think I'll take time off, because whenever I do that I get messed up.

 

I'm just going to try and forget about it and move on. Hopefully shoot a good number next time I go out.

If I shot a round anywhere close to that I would have immediately went back to the first tee with some kinda hope that I would redeem myself. No way I would want to sit around and think about that for very long.

I would maybe take a week or two off then go to the range and see if your making the same mistakes. If you are, work on them and when your again happy with your swing, take it to the course.
