I’ll offer a few of my favorites, hopefully others following along can add a comment or their two favorites.

If I could only play two .... it would be Firecliff & PGA West Stadium if one or the other was unavailable then Classic Club.

Escena  - since it’s my home course.

Desert Willow – Firecliff not Mountain

Classic Club

Indian Canyon South not the North

Fantasy Springs – Eagle Falls

PGA West either Stadium or Nicklaus

Indian Wells - Players or Celebrity

SilverRock was a favourite, but it’s a const site now, others here like it.

Rams Hill – it’s great course but 1.5 hr drive up to Borrego Springs.

Have a look at the Course Index I created, it includes a number of the valley courses with pic’s and reviews as well there are a number of other interesting thinks-to-do rather than golf every day while visiting P.S.

Enjoy the golf holiday ….

Cheers

I'm in.  Rams Hill is great, IMO.  Can't see why one wouldn't want to go?  Signed up for some Shockwave treatment on my shoulder.  Here's hoping it goes well.

Well, I guess any trips are off for the next while.  My kidney stones have returned and if past experience tells me anything, this can take a while (days-weeks) to resolve.  My Dr. told me to expect a reoccurrence every 4-5 years and this is year 4.  Too risky to travel when a hospital visit could run into some serious cash.  maybe next year? 🤢

Never had K-stones, but know people who have, you made the right decision.

There's always next year.

Those are excellent choices & everyone's favourites, I'm hoping to get out on Firecliff next week and you will really enjoy Classic Club as long as it's not tooooo windy that day.

We have been back home in Manitoba for a week now after spending the month of January in Palm Desert.  It was good weather for golfing and hiking.  I played a lot of rounds as there were numerous friends who were also there and were eager to play,

I got 16 rounds in.

Indian Wells Golf Resort Players course 3 times

Indian Wells Golf Resort Celebrity course 1

The Classic Club 2

Mission Hills North Gary Player Course 3

PGA West Palmer Private 1

Shadow Ridge 3

Sun City San Georginio 2

Desert Springs Palm Course 1

I was playing with a friend at Indian Wells Players course and he got a hole in one. His 6th.  The person we were matched up with has 11!

Courses were all in good shape.  Last fall's overseeding had taken well everywhere.

Managed to shoot in the 70's 6 times

Only disappointment was at both Palmer Private and San Georginio the courses were fully overseeded except the greens.  So the greens were dormant bermuda grass (I assume) and bumpy, slow and inconsistent to putt on.

We booked the place we rented for 6 weeks next year.

Forgot to mention in my previous post

We drove into SilverRock one day  to look around.

What a shame.   What was our favorite course had it's back 9 ruined to accommodate hotel and housing.   Now the construction is at a stand still as the developer cannot get the financing.   Partially built buildings are all they have accomplished.

Another Canuck hiding from winter, I'm sure you enjoyed your stay & play golf holiday. 16 rounds in 6 wks is awesome & breaking 80 on those courses is excellent. Wow 6/11 ACES, very special.  I haven't had the opportunity to play the IW Players or Celebrity, perhaps one of these days.  I share your same opinion on SilverRock, they made a mess of it and it's been 5 years of construction and now everything is just sitting. SilverRock Pic from KESQ NEWS, you got to wonder what the City of La Quinta will do to get this disaster back on the rails, nothing seems to be happening.

It's been raining here again, the roads just reopened, but more rain is expected next weekend, been a wet February in the desert with snow in the local mountains.

Cheers

This is great information. Worth it to buy a Troon card? It looks like you get a 2 for 1 option but I cannot find the details on it.

Fella I know had the Troon Card, unfortunately, can't say if he got the 2 for 1 or not. Found the following on website, you may have to call the ProShop to get the details.

Perhaps someone following can help out.

Depends in where you’re located and how much and where you play. Oregon has 2 courses, same with Wa. Utah has one. CA has a bunch but only 2 in the Coachella Valley. Last time i looked into it (im in oregon) if you and one other split the 2 for 1, youd need to play at least 3 or 4 times at Classic club for the card to make sense. I havent tried to see what the indian wells breakeven would be, or if i made other trips along the west coast.

I used the Troon card in January at The Classic Club, Mission Hills North G Player , and Indian Wells Golf Resort (both courses )

I could have used it at either course at Shadow Hills as well but didn’t play there.

We never used the 2 for 1 deal - booking a decent tee time was too difficult

I played Indian Canyons South this morning and really enjoyed it. It’s in fantastic condition, and the service was great. The course is really friendly off the tee, with pretty generous fairways, and even when you’re on the edge, the slopes seem to encourage shots back toward the short grass and away from trouble. It’s a great course for a northerner playing their first round in town after a winter layoff. I wasn’t hitting it great and still managed to shoot 4-over without making much of anything other than a 10 foot par putt. We’re staying on the northeast end of Palm Springs, and it has been super windy here until tonight, but it’s really amazing how little breeze there was at the course—it’s similar to how calm it’s been in downtown PS. Thanks to ZipinZ for maintaining this very useful thread!

We’re staying on the northeast end of Palm Springs, and it has been super windy here until tonight, but it’s really amazing how little breeze there was at the course—it’s similar to how calm it’s been in downtown PS. Thanks to ZipinZ for maintaining this very useful thread!

Tks for the report, I.C. South is one of my favorite courses and when it's windy like today, that would be the best option.

March 03rd .... was out most of the morning, came home down i10, could barely see the Classic Club property, one monster dust storm here today, Palm Tree's are bending sideways & there's still a few people out golfing the Desert Princess in Cat City.

A few pic's from out our back door, pic's in focus that's dust.

A few pics from Indian Canyons South. They warned us when we started that the palm trees with the big grass skirts eat balls, and the guys in my group did lose at least two balls that way. It's an interesting hazard that I've never seen before on a golf course.

Any recommendations on bag set up here?

Debating what the play is 2i, 2H, or 5w. going out in a couple of weeks and playing indian wells celeb and players back to back, followed by PGA west stadium.

Never played a dessert course.  Any tips other than enjoy the views 😎

Haven't played the I.W. courses perhaps others following can offer some pointers.

PGA West - Stadium is a fun challenging track, I found you need a bag a club that you carry 200-225 yds. There's a couple of longer Par 3's that can get you in trouble and a few Par 4's surrounded by water. Greens are quick and depending on pin placement, below the hole will be a bonus, there's more break than you think.

I find I'm 1 club less here than back home due to elevation, P.S. is approx. 475 ft above sea level.

Enjoy your golf vacation.

Hit 9i into slight breeze, Pro-V1 hits & holds the green, missed my Birdie putt.

Awesome That's great to know! didn't realize it was above sea level out there.  I just got my a new set of km700 700 and picked up some distance coming from my mb101 for better or for worse.... what is your wedge set up and bounce? I'm coming out from the north east where it can get pretty soft at times and hard in the winter 😅.  I think i've been anxious about that the most. I've played a few times in Florida and Texas but never enough to figure it all out, you could say i haven't gotten along with TX/FL very well.

Thanks for sharing those photos it's really hyping up the trip! Just hope we don't get some crazy windy day while we're out there, i'm already bummed that no one in our group walks and out of solidarity going to join them in the cart... Either way going to an amazing few days.

Thanks again!

I play a few different wedges that I bring & swap out while here, you will find the conditions at the courses your playing will be soft not hard.  Ping 56* S10 is normally with me, at times I leave the 45* or 50* or 56* in the rental & bring my Vokey SM6 56-08 or 60-06 both with S/F i110's. I find the Vokeys are great out here, maybe even a bit better than my Ping Glide Pro 56.

I suggest you have a look at my review of the Stadium course on Page 7 of the thread, just past the middle, dated January 28 2020, there's a lot of pic's to tease you a bit.

I walked it during the AMEX Tourney, with a 1K others, got sore feet.

I never really felt that any course on PS was a desert course.  Nothing like you can get in Arizona for the most part.

You will find more elevated greens than many other places so you are constantly needed to adjust for that in your yardages.  If you play a low spin ball, you might be chipping a lot. Depending on your game skill, you might want to opt for a long club that gives you more height if you hit those into a lot of holes.

Best advice I can give you, is to play from a tee-box that fits your game.  This is not a place to be a hero and play farther back than you should.

No one walks out there, unless you are a  high school or college golfer.

Does anyone know the daily range fee at PGA West?

I never thought it was a great practice facility.  Especially for a 'Flagship' resort.    Shadow Ridge was far better.  Indian Wells might be the worst one out there.
