Talk me into or out of arm lock putting

Where's the preferred area on the lead forearm where the top of the grip should hit? A few inches below the crease of your arm?

I have been using one for about 3 weeks, and I slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night, so here's my opinion.  🙂

1.5 to 2 inches below the crease.  I want it resting on the biggest part of the forearm.  You can do some pre-testing for length by using fairway woods or hybrids to simulate the putter.

1-2" below the crease.  If you haven't already, try the Jumbomax 17" grip flat side forward.  The wide area helps the putter to feel locked in on your forearm but unlike the Superstroke Flatso equivalent, it tapers down so where you grip feels closer to the size of say a SS 3.0 rather than feeling like a 5.0.

I picked up my buddies conventional length putter and hit a few putts because he wanted to test my armlock.  I felt naked.  Nuff said.

Interesting, I've found the opposite.  Armlocking has improved my conventional putting as well and I can switch back and forth seamlessly.

I'd say overall I'm better armlocking but I'm more likely to get streaky and make a bunch of 10-20 footers conventional, albeit with a higher risk of missing inside 6 feet.

I tried a jumbomax 17" but the grip in my hands feels gigantic.

I say give it a shot!  I have 10 rounds in thus far with my attempt at going arm lock and really didnt settle in on a process until about round 4.  During this time, I also practiced a couple times a week just working on diffent stance and process.

I have been playing with it looking at the hole when I make the stroke, but altered that slightly and started looking at the ball on 4' and under putts.  I'll continue to practice doing it both ways and see how it goes but thus far, looking at the hole has been letting me get the ball past the hole.  My usuall stroke is dying the ball in the hole and I generally leave a lot of putts short so this is a nice change.  Becasue I do tend to hit it firmer looking at the hole, I went back to looking at the ball on short putts as I missed a couple of short ones as they lipped out with too much pace.

This year I have been averaging 32.4 putts a rounds, and 10 rounds in with my armlock my average is 30.6 putts per round.  So far so good!  We will see if the trend continues.

Having an interesting experience so far with armlock putting. My distance control on lag putts is pretty much spot on. My short putts are where it is dicey, but I have the same problem with a standard putter as well. I think it may have to do more with how I see the line on short putts. I may try looking at the hole on short putts.

I been bending more forward with my posture that my weight is on my toes and and can lift my heels up
I’m usually more open and upright stance with weight on my heels

trying new stroke with parallel stance and more  Bent over stance

Not visualize the line as well but it’s replaced by a path to the cup   Also like to lift the putter up as part of my routine
speed control good for my short putts

Seem more of adjustment for longer putts for me

Don't see many folks talking about it, but the 21" Round Jumbomax armlock grip is awesome. There is something I really like about the round grip.

However, 21" grips are a pain to install over a LAGP shaft that has a gigantic butt diameter lol.

I know this is old but did you actually install one? I am about to install one on an LAGP. I assume just use a lot of solvent?

It's more difficult than a regular grip, but nothing crazy. Would use a ton of solvent.

Ok that is what I was going to attempt.  Spray a ton of solvent on the actual tape and a ton of solvent inside the grip.

Yeah and blast some solvent on after you have it on halfway. Good luck!

I started tinkering with armlock last fall.  I built a test putter with an old x100 4 iron shaft and got it bent way upright and added a bunch of loft.  Initial results were good enough that I ordered a new shaft I could start at 42" or so and dial in.  I wound up at 41" and a smidge more upright with a Winn 17" pistol grip.

My putting has steadily improved using the armlock putter.  I am making way more long putts and distance control in general is much better.

All that said it's sort of fiddly to get right.  I already had a fairly mechanical straight back straight through motion and the technique still required quite a bit of adjustment.

I say forget the armlock and just go full out side saddle and buy a Bobby Grace F22.

Just trust me -

It has been by far the best switch for my golf game, putting is so much easier and natural this way.  I think people are just scared to try it for 2-3 reasons: 1) finding a good side saddle putter is difficult or expensive, 2) learning curve because its SO different from traditional or arm locking (but to me its more natural), and 3) people will ask you a bunch of questions or make comments, but the easiest way to shut them up is just drain 5ft putts all day long on em, then they'll be asking to try it out.

Just my 2 cents if you truly want to be a better putter and don't mind spending some time getting the hang of it.  I spent all winter one year hitting 3ft putts on my Truth Board and never looked back.

Has anyone used armlock when dressed with a few layers for cold weather?

Wondering....

Today I did it with a couple of light layers.  Didn't seem much different but I can see where it might be interesting with another, heavier layer.

I built an armlock putter out of an old Anser I had laying around just to try it. I liked it so much I converted my gamer.

I had the grip sideways in the test putter and realized I’d rather have it normal. Feels awesome.

Here is mine.  Odyssey Jailbird Mini, extended to 40 inches. I put 30 grams of #8 lead shot down the shaft and tamped a cork down onto it.  I bent it to 7 loft, 76 lie.  Wrist lock grip, and I use it as a mid lock.
