Your choice of balls?

For me the Q star tour does everything I need a ball to do at a price I like.

I also like the chrome soft and when I can get a deal I'll play them.

If you read the extensive testing that has been done by independent groups, several themes emerge that speak to the OP's question, beyond all of us just saying what ball we are currently using.

The distance differences off a driver are relatively small from the longest to the shortest; less than 10 yards total when various swing speeds are averaged.Dispersion rates off the driver are bigger by percentage than the distance differences; still not huge, but bigger.The variations in spin rates off a wedge are NOT relatively small; there is much more variation in spin rates than distance OR dispersion.Harder balls go farther than softer balls in most cases, but softer balls do NOT necessarily spin more than harder balls; consequently, most advise that you choose a ball for it's performance characteristics and disregard "feel", which is pretty much completely subjective and probably based more on sound than what the ball actually does. (The Chrome Soft, at least the last couple of years, is instructive; in testing, it's short, crooked, AND doesn't spin much, at least relative to other premium balls.)You can successfully play with pretty much ANY ball; the key is that you use the same ball all the time because of the way different balls react off of wedges and even the putter.All of that said, there are several balls that come out as shining stars across the spectrum of performance characteristics of distance, dispersion, and spin. In no particular order, those would include both TP5's, both ProV1's, and both MTB's, with some advantage to the X version of each of those. The Srixon Z-Star XV is another.Most "experts" would advise exactly what others have posted above; work back from the green. The bottom line question is how much spin you want to pay for; more expensive balls spin more, and less expensive balls spin less.

I just tried the Callaway Super Soft yesterday and loved it. I usually play covered rocks, so it took a few holes to get used to, especially putting, but it soon became addictive. I especially enjoyed its matte finished soft little green glow.

Personally, I've slowly migrated to a Wilson Staff user. Liked the Duo Urethane, liked the Duo Pro a bit more, and have always liked the FG Tour, a few dozen of which I just scored. Also bought a two dozen pack of the 3pc Kirkland balls, with the idea of playing them as the firmer alternative to high spin balatas, for retro rounds with persimmons. The 15 wound balls I have left won't last forever.

So many good balls to choose from...currently I'm playing the Maxfli Tour, Bridgestone RX or Snell MTB-X.

Used a current V1 on Wednesday and may move back to it. Great flight into a breeze and durable. Honma TW1X is similar ball. Used an E6 Speed yesterday as course soaking wet. Awful ball. Rest of the box will be donated as raffle prizes. Will try some new Bridgestone ammo once it hits the shelf.
