I see on their schedule that they are showing the Valero Texas open from last year tonight at 8EST so I guess its going to be another week of just the Valero Texas open until next Thrusday.

 

What boggles my mind is that they cannot switch up the scheduling. Throw in an instructional show or something. I am not a television professional but I could easily do a better programming schedule than what GC is throwing out right now.

My hunch is this is the beginning of the end of Golf Channel as we know it. I think the move out of Orlando means significant changes are on the way. As for the content they are showing now, it is just being slapped together to fill the temporary void, ON THE CHEAP. I can guarantee you what they are currently showing is whatever costs them the least money to run. Golf Channel has never cared about golf. They use golf to sell ads at the lowest possible production cost to them. It wouldn't surprise me to see the whole Orlando operation scrapped. They will probably keep a "Florida Correspondent" on scene for periodic "Golf Central Florida Reports" from some grill room or practice tee in Cocoa Beach or some such, but not much else. There is a reason PGA Tour Headquarters are leaving Florida for Texas. Florida is going stale. The population is growing, but growing older. The entire South Florida/Miami area is no longer a golf mecca. The World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine is a ghost town. Florida is a tax break state for retirees and little else. Environmentally, the state of Florida is a wholesale disaster overrun by tacky subdivisions and drained wetlands.

I don't blame you and other loyal GC viewers for being upset with the programming. Hopefully the move to Ct. will bring us better programming. We'll see.

I agree 100% with you. My beef with GC is the laziness of the programming. They should have a lot of content to fill the airwaves but choose to replay the same tournament for 7 straight days in a row and the 3 same movies over and over again.

 

Meanwhile, their GOLFPASS instructors (Hall, Chuck, etc) are doing Instagram Live videos for 30mins for the next two weeks. Why couldn't you break into re-run programming and show that?

You would think they would at least make an effort toward viewer support. Maybe some kind of statement or disclaimer in these tough times. My guess is GC people are losing their jobs, morale is low and with the move to CT. they probably just plain don't give a s**t.

Problem is everytime they show something like big break they have to pay the people in the show residuals. Prob why they aren’t

So true. Don't forget, while this golf shutdown is in place, Golf Channel is NOT MAKING ANY MONEY. So of course they are not going show anything costly to run.

Partially true...but since most of the GC money comes from selling air time for PGA Tour events, they have to issue sponsors what is called a "Make Good"...a credit for spots not run...BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PGA TOUR EVENTS RUNNING.

GC is losing money big time when they can't show regular PGA Tour events.

Well, there's one thing biting me in the arse and that's the use of the word Classic - on broadcast right now is PGA Tour Classic featuring the 2019 Valero Texas Open. Hmmm, just one year ago this tournament provided some of the most memorable viewing in the history of the PGA Tour? I'm actually ashamed I had to just look up who won this tourney, and I had already forgotten it was my fellow countryman Corey Connors who won it...jeez, that's kinda classic if you're a Canadian. Shame on me!

How about they name this lukewarm broadcasting PGA Tour Replay or PGA Tour Rewind? When you actually broadcast something we can all remember then by all means fire the 'ol Classic in the title and I'll think I'm about to watch something special from the past.

Who would they have to pay residuals to? I am unfamiliar with how it works. And it could not be that much since the series was shot almost 15 years ago and is not in syndication.

Doesn’t matter. The screen actors guild Contracts are one of the strongest ones. Every on camera talent (hosts and golfers (actors)) would get paid. It’s enough to matter I would guess.

I can’t understand why they can’t show a major prior to the FOX agreement. It’s like GC has completely lost its way. I don’t understand why they can’t do a daily 1/2 hour update, same time every day. As a regular viewer this is just plain golf news. You’d think of all the staff, and a few different sets in studio this could be easily done, or just from home. Disappointed, and I just don’t get it. Hardship is always a turning point. Either you do, or don’t. So far GC is don’t.
