For as little winning as Rickie does, he is a cash cow in a fashion that Bryson will never match. Even in being the biggest story on the PGA tour right now. If Rickie starts winning Bryson will be second fiddle again in seconds.

Fair.. But, honestly, he does not even have to win. If he is in contention regularly. he is more marketable. Look at the PGA tour live broadcasts... Rickie is in like every other commercial..

i 100% agree, rickie is everywhere, for reasons i have yet to figure out. i'm just thinking that Cobra is pretty clearly the 5th leading OEM behind Callaway, TM, Titleist, Ping and i am sure Cobra/Puma is paying Rickie an absurd amount of money, but for what? if rickie stops play Cobra clubs does that dramatically devalue the brand? i can't remember talking to one person on the golf course who plays Cobra clubs because Rickie does, and maybe that's just a small sample and i am way off (wouldn't be the first time haha).

As far as equipment goes, Cobra out sold Titleist last year by a decent margin. It was Callaway, Taylormade, Ping, then Cobra. If you do not count the ball.

I would also say that Cobra has to be careful putting all their eggs in the Bryson basket. He is super hot and trending right now. But his game and equipment are super specific, and limited in scope. At best one length irons account for 20-30% of Cobra equipment sales. Are really going to go all in on that? Right now it may sell a bunch of drivers.

 

Plus, what happens if his game falls apart? Then you are stuck with equipment marketed to a small group and no one that wants to buy it.

 

Last point. Rickie's personality is far more likable and he appears much more approachable.

Rickie has the million dollar personality, just has to back it up on the course. He needs to break the seal on getting a major. It will be interesting to see if the adjusted timing of the majors this year helps some guys who haven't gotten one yet.

Your last sentence sums it up nicely. For all Bryson's great play, unique methods and outside the box thinking, he doesn't come across as a warm, sincere and genuine person like Rickie. Rickie would never describe himself as "not a bad dude" as Bryson did or would never get up in a cameraman's grill because he was potentially damaging his brand. May not be true, but Bryson doesn't strike me as someone who would have a lot of friends, and it doesn't appear to be super popular with his peers. Rickie is many things he isn't. Unfortunately you can't take "personality shakes" although I am sure BAD has done some research into it. On a marketability scale of Patrick Reed to Rickie Fowler, I think BAD is closer to PR than RF.

No idea for sure. It sure feels like PR spin, but these events are a bit different. Limited tour van presence etc. So, maybe there is some truth to him not being able to test shafts how he would want. I dunno. But, it for sure feels like PR spin.

 

I soooo wanted some of these irons. But, again $2500 and no custom options.. Thats just crazy..

Can i compare Ricky and rev33 to Lee Trevino and the Top Flite Tour iron? A great combo,great guy and great iron design back then.Lee was in NZ 1994ish and gave a 1hr talk on the range at my club ...Memorable!

So are we all buying this story now?? I mean, they made 33 different models of this iron. He played a set that was raw satin for a bit before switching the the bronze.. I am not saying the story is wrong, I just still have a bit of hard time swallowing it. He is going through some big swing changes, and to me this all screams searching.

 

Plus he is playing really well this week so far with the AMPs.

I want to buy it, but even w/ limited Tour Truck availability they should still be able to EASILY reshaft a set of irons for him right? There shouldn't be any issues they can't tackle in the truck vs HQ I would think!

Rick is the new sergio... maybe when hes 45 he will win a pga championchip lol. Love him hes great player... he just cant get over that hump... honestly it looks like not alot of guys can... lets be real though... everytime i shoot a few rounds in a row in the 80s.. im like... this is it... here i come pga tour... then bam 3 rounds in low mid 90s... this game is hard. Tiger woods truly made the game seem toooo easy.. you know the games tough when you think your about to see the next dominant golfer and they dont win nothing for about 3 yrs. Tough. Love it though.
