I am a cobra fan. I have really only ever played Cobra and Mizuno irons now that I think about it. The first set of clubs I ever bought for myself were King Cobra oversized irons back int he mid 90s. I have had 4 sets of Cobra irons since and I think 3 Sets of Mizunos with a Macgregor thrown in there right before they gave up the ghost. Currently playing Cobra King forged CB irons. So I would have loved a set of these. If they were in the 1500-1900 range I may have considered it. At $2500 you are in national custom range and might as well design you own blade and have it hand ground at that point.

 

Yes, I know national customers are more, but my point is you are sniffing them out at that point.

I totally agree with you man. Maybe they will release these at a lower price point now that RF has already abandoned them? I’d be a player and then have my club guy tweak them to my specs.

Has golf clubs built from the ground up specifically for him and they don't last 6 months? Doesn't play a single club from the current lineup? There are millions ($) of reasons to keep Rickie on staff. There are so few guys that move the marketing needle like he does without winning majors. I get the value he has to the Cobra brand, but man I would love to be a fly on the wall when Rickie told them he wasn't playing the Rev 33 irons that didnt even make it to retail yet. What did he say?? "Still too much offset....."

Who knows, he could have them back in the bag tomorrow, or next week.. He could have graphite shafts, or a steel shaft in his driver.. I think he is searching. His game is a bit of a mess.

Amp Cell Pros back in the bag. Weren't these from 2013 or 2014? As I recall they were very popular at the time. They had cavity-back long irons, small cavity mid irons, and the 9 and PW were muscle back. Pretty cool. I guess sometimes you just don't need to fix what ain't broken.

Their players iron has not really changed since the 08 pro MB/CB. They tweak them just a little here and there. Add some tungsten in the toe, then in the sole. But the head shape is almost Identical.

Now they are saying RF is just testing shafts which is why he has these in play.

I don't buy it... Good try at spin though.. They just saw the retail value of these clubs do this...

 

 

Trying a shaft in a different head than you will be playing makes zero sense.

 

He played really well today looks like he should stick with the AMPs any way...

That is the story... He was a C Taper guy. I forget what he switched to, but it was with the intent of adding spin I think. Now played X100s and to try, but with a different head.. Golfers are crazy people. Even those really good at it.

He's been all over the place with ball and shafts. Not surprised he's struggling. Never good when there's that much experimentation. I don't read much into backing off rev 33's, MB heads simply don't make as much of a difference, as shafts do. Tiger has had same configuration for entire adult life, Faldo used same iron shafts for 11 years, had new heads installed every year on them. Ricky has between the ears issues, he's trying to resolve it with gear.

Weren’t the rev33 irons milled 304 SS? I would imagine that could be an issue when playing carbon steel forever.

I think that he started putting worse with that shaft. I mean it may have had nothing to do with the shaft but he hasn’t been putting like he used to.

I was wonder that as well. He played pretty good last week with some older sticks. I think he should keep running with what is working.
