Similar to AD-TP

Recommended Posts

Searched everywhere and couldn’t quite find any good suggestions. Currently playing the AD TP in 6s and have the itch to try out some other shafts. Looking for recommendations on something somewhat similar. AD TP seems to be somewhat firm in the butt and tip but softer in the middle. What I like about is it that it has a nice kick to it but feels stable and keeps spin down.

What are you looking to improve upon there exactly? Lots of similar shafts but it will depend on what you feel is lacking.

Hmm, The AD-TP isn't exactly a low launching shaft so if you're looking for more launch then you're better off either adding loft or raising strike point. When you like the feel and general performance you get from a shaft, swapping just for the sake of swapping is just a money pit to be honest. Shafts fit swings, loft and strike dictate launch and spin. To raise launch with a shaft you need the additional lead deflection (more dynamic loft at impact) that a softer shaft provides, but that generally starts compromising stability. If I were a fitter and I heard "It has a nice kick to it but still feels stable and it keeps the spin down" then I would probably say "Ok great, we've got your shaft, lets fine tune the head to get your launch perfect and we're gold".

The AD-TP is basically a mid-launch "Blue" profile with a slightly different butt section that likely contributes to that feeling of stability. Kind of the perfect more stable "driver" version of the Rogue Black 110 you have in your fairway (one of my favorite fairway shafts). If you can find a 60g driver version then that would be something that might launch higher. The AD-VR is a slightly softer version of the AD-TP, and lots of other mid-launch "Blue" profiles would fit the bill as well (anything Blue from Mitsubishi). But i'd honestly stick with the TP and get your launch from loft tweaks.

No worries, I have far too many different shafts to judge anyone for tinkering! Just wanted to make sure the expectations were set.

Regarding the AD-TP butt section, it is a little bit of both, see below.

7OJ3GYO459YH.png

The AD-TP is in grey, and the blue line is the Diamana BF which is a pretty typical example of a "Blue" profile. You can see that the BF starts out stiffer in the butt section, but then loses stiffness on a pretty steep slope for the first 6" and levels out for a big, softer mid section and then a very stiff tip. The AD-TP is different in that it starts out a touch softer (still pretty stiff though) and loses stiffness much more slowly, creating a bit of a shelf there under the hands for pretty much the length of the grip. That can feel stable to those sensitive to such things. The premium Kuro Kage shafts have some similar characteristics, the XM being the closest that might be worth a try, especially since they can be had fairly cheaply.

I would try out Fujikura Speeder Evolution V 661 S, GD Tour AD DI 6S, GD Tour AD VR 6S, or Mitsubishi Tensei Pro Blue 60 S.

I’m a big fan of the AD TP as well. Ventus Blue is a shaft that reminds me of the TP, although Ventus blue has a slightly different ei profile. With Ventus Blue there is that familiar “kick” feeling you get with TP, just not as much.

Yes, talking about the real Ventus with Velocore. Launch and spin aren’t really a shaft characteristic, but that is an entire other conversation lol. For MY swing and played in the same driver head, Ventus launched about the same, spin was a touch higher than TP.

Coming in a bit late, but you said the TP aligns well with the rogue 110? Asking as i have a CC fitting this upcoming Saturday and trying to get an idea on what to try. Yes, i have an open mind but I also know what I have had success with and the 110 spend alot of time in my driver, fw and hybrid. If the TP fits that profile, Ill keep that in mind.

The AD-TP is kinda like a beefed up Rogue Black 110. It is stiffer throughout the butt/upper mid section and stiffer in the tip, but still has the same overall mid soft "Blue" type of profile.

If you want something that closely resembles the TP which is an excellent shaft in of itself for hybrid, I would recommend the Ventus Blue Velocore version 9s.  Another two to consider in the GD family would be the IZ 95s and DI 95s.  All 3 are mid launch/low spin shafts which matches the profile of the TP.  The IZ however will launch the highest.  This is all from personal experience.

If I was looking to improve anything it might be getting a bit more launch.

I play the same shaft and for me doing a little extra push ups on a daily basis helped me with a bit more launch.  😅 In all seriousness, hear you on the itch to try something different as I'm feeling the same right now.  I've been playing it for probably 5 years now.  Let me know if you found anything good!
