Looking for a nice private golf club near the Jersey shore (preferably close to AC). In rank order of importance:

great coursegreat practice facility speed of roundgood peopleeverything elseheard great things about Galloway; wanted the opinion of people on this forum (have appreciated the thoughtful crowd on here). Also, if someone has an idea of membership costs, please PM. Thanks in advance all

The pines at the Seaview resort , we hold a tournament there every year , super tough course that has a very suspect slope rating

of 121 when it should be at least 138/9 tremendous layout that makes you think , miss the fairway and it's automatic bogey or better

the ladies LPGA play the ocean course nice layout with postage stamp greens but the pines is a tremendous course .

I would look at Galloway or Hidden Creek down there. Both courses are very good. Hidden Creek is part of the Dormie Club network so you’d have access to their other courses in the country as well.

One bonus of Hidden Creek over Galloway is that you don’t have to worry about the greenheads.

As for the comments about Seaview Pines.... you can’t be serious when comparing Galloway. Seaview sucks!

Galloway is an impressive course - inspired by Pine Valley - but can be a beast and beat you up.  Atlantic City Country Club would be my pick in the area

Ended up joining Galloway.  Looked at others.  No regrets.  Galloway is a tough, challenging course that will make me a better player.   Lots of risk/reward.  Have to be thoughtful getting around.  Great people and good mix of good golfers.

Good choice, I thinks it’s a much better course then hidden creek.

Seaview Bay was in horrible condition a few weeks ago. Many greens burnt out, poor condition of fairways, rough. Ballamoor was 100% better. Greens were impeccable which is all I am really looking for at public course.

Legit question-how bad are the greenhead flies there? I have heard it can be unplayable?

Good question.  To be honest, I have been out all season and had only one day that I noticed a a fair number of them.  Maybe because I had bug spray on, they weren’t that much of a distraction to me that day (couple landed on me).  I generally play early or late afternoon and generally the wind has been 5+mph to 18mph which may prevent some of the bugs from coming around.  The bugs are not on my mind as being a big thing there after playing all summer.  To be honest, the worst greenhead day of the year for me was at ACCC (Unprecedented bugs; was spraying the cart down with bug spray).

Sure do.. not just at the turn either. Place is just great

That is a nice touch as I wished more courses would do that. Do we have to nickel and dime every last person? I think they put 50 bucks a month or so on the dues to account for it. Great for guests and the places it stands out for me are:

Galloway

Hamilton Farm

Austin GC

Galloway is the best shore course (could be rivaled by UL National in some years)

I agree, I was really impressed with changes last summer. I’m playing there again in may and I’m excited to see what else they have done.

Only 5 or 6 holes of the 27 will still need renovating after this season (and will be addressed this fall). It's amazing how much more dirt was moved over the winter. There's water everywhere now. It's insane!

I'm just having some fun. Yes, the renovated holes's greens (in particular) need to mature. They kept them a bit shaggy last year to allow them to establish good roots and whatnot. They should be much better this year.
