SS - with the LS1 engine.  2010 - so the ZL wasn't in prod yet.

Funny story about the Bentley - After golf a few weeks ago, our foursome went to dinner in Scottsdale.  I pulled up and this car was sitting out front.  Curiosity had me peeking at it. Unknowingly the server who took care of us, saw me walking 'from' the Bentley and in typical Scottsdale fashion, I was the 'apple of her eye' because she assumed it was mine.  🙂  She casually let me know she loved the color and her birthday was coming up soon.

So early Tuesday morning I am shuffling through the name labels to be affixed on the guest lockers. I run into one name and my mind immediately returns back to my D.C. days. Could that be him I wondered? Naw that is a common name and it's just a coincidence I figured and went on with my opening duties. I checked in the fab four from the ATL at 10 AM. I had completely forgotten about that name that stood out in the guest locker section. I was with my favorite members from Georgia for thirty minutes getting them square. The Atlanta boys were golden. I was walking though the front parking lot when a nice bright red Acura pulled in. I spied the Maryland tags. We do not see many from the Crabby State here in the mountains. Then I spied the license plate frame stating Bethesda Maryland. I approached the driver's door and as the driver was getting out I greeted him in a deep voice with " Oh we have some D.C. golfers here do we?" Mr. Campbell replied with, " Now just who is asking?"  Once I heard the voice I knew it was him. I introduced myself and told him I knew him when he was the famous WRC TV-4 weekend entertainment/movies critic guy because I had lived in Fairfax County, Va.  from 1981-1996. From that first handshake in the parking lot a new friendship was made. The entire day became special for both of us. I gave Arch and his buddy my top tier best. I took them on my in depth 20 minute tour of the gnome castle and spoke of it's history. I explained the golf course and escorted them to the  practice facilities. Arch and I flashed back to mid 80's and mid 90's D.C. , we did a good bit of conversing. We talked Redskins, the Clinton years, restaurants, bars, his fellow TV personalities, and all things D.C. area golf. Arch and I made each other's day in Asheville better.

Mr. Campbell was grateful he immediately ran into a host upon his arrival who had D.C. ties that was more than willing to give him the VIP treatment. He told me I made his first visit to the soon to be one hundred years old Donald Ross North Carolina classic far more memorable.

If I make it to D.C. Arch and I are playing at his club Columbia C.C.

The love of this wonderful game combined with working in the hospitality industry has allowed me for decades to cross paths with new and interesting people. I liked working Tuesday.

The most troubling part of that photo is how poor the conditions of the green appear to be!  Not sure I'd play there!

Not Patton cards a snowman on 18 and my pick of him ends up after the first round at T108 !  Bad news. The good news is that I also have this guy at T1 to offset Kizzie's mess. Great round today for "the Rick." (what Chef tells me his buddies call him)

EDIT>>>>  Now!  Back then commish had the do flowing!  Not sure what Lisa was rocking?

Oh back in the day I had a fast vehicle and like you got a handful of speeding tickets. Correct P48 I donned in my early years the wavy longish Californian kid look. Every summer my hair would get almost snow white from the sun. It still does to this day, only there is far less of it upstairs now. For hours on end I rode my Mattel X-15. This was when a toy was made solidly of metal and lasted for years even with the tough abuse it took from a rambunctious lad. The ride had a seat belt so I was all good.  lol   Diggin' the PF Flyers mom.

Back in the 80's commish and ladies never went slow P48.

D.C./Maryland/and my home in Virginia had lots of the white stuff in it. 🙃

Love the car puttin'. I've always been a Camaro fan and not the Mustang. And being one from Detroit you are required to stand up, take a side and state your allegiance. Camaro's are far sexier. I had a manual 84 Z 28 for two years in D.C. It was the only car I ever had stolen. What a violated feeling that is.

It's rather fun driving a V8 powered two door with a manual and rear wheel drive. Mine was metallic silver.

This one is real.

I spill some stuff here because even though we have never met in person, a few of you I consider pretty close friends. Only in a digital life can this emotion can be experienced I suppose.

I probably should have been getting a master's degree at one of the many fine Universities that one can find in the Washington metropolitan area, but no I chose to run in the fast lane for a decade and chase females instead during my D.C. daze. I abused cocaine for 8 years. I drank way too much vodka at this time as well. I had a DUI. I got clean finally but still had another fix that I wanted often. Women can be a drug too and one can become addicted to pursuing the opposite sex. I lived it. The find, the chase, and then the conquer, that was my game for decades. One achieves at least silver status automatically though when penning Penthouse letters because of this lifestyle. 😉

My past lifestyle has provided me with fond memories and sensational stories to tell when gabbing over drinks at the 19th hole, but am I not supposed to be playing toss with the grand kids in the back yard during my current place in life? Sometimes I think back and look at the the road that I selected and question if maybe I did it wrong. Possibly it's when one is right on the doorstep of 6 decades that he might pine for the experience of having three generations of family around him. I see it around me often and it appears to me to be a dear existence.

****   Let me say first that I am forever grateful that Worth got much better during our family's time in St. Louis (1976-1980) . He rose up and got back on his feet. A Swedish company came calling and saw my dad's brilliance and made him their new chief of their US operations, of course this was near the heartbeat of defense, the Pentagon in Alexandria, Va. Worth knew everything about defense submarines besides trains and cars. Now do you guys get it? I was adopted so got none of this brilliant man's mind and that is obvious, but I did have him as the smartest dad in the neighborhood for years so that had to be beneficial for me in some way regarding childhood development I figure.  Hooray for my dad's experience that one might describe as being born again. To Worth who was a fervent Christian his entire existence that must have proved mighty sweet. Damn modest man my father. Prayers paid off for my dad from Des Moines , we moved to Washington DC and Worth garnered a generous salary once again. He did have to go to Sweden 5 times a year, but very much enjoyed his 3 week business trips to the land of the blondes.

At my 25th HS reunion in St. Louis a few years back I was hanging with my main kats, the boys that had been a pack since our freshman year. We all smoked refer for the first time as a group, consumed  alcohol as rookies together, and got laid for the first time and compared notes.

3 off us were golf team members from our sophomore year on. On the lawn of this beautiful suburban campus you have...... T the partner in a strong law firm downtown St. Louis . C the surgeon from Chicago, and TA who had started a very successful digital company in Los Angeles, and your commish , the hot shot waiter from Georgetown /DC and the Las Vegas Strip.

On the grounds of a wonderful campus that I spent 6 glorious years I said to my boys...........

" I see you my brothers, all of you have been so successful and you have nice families around you. You have beautiful wives, great kids, second homes for summer or winter skiing fun. You drive MB's and  BMW's and have 911's in the garage for weekend toys. Hell I should have toed the line and gone with higher education instead of riding the circuit as a golf and girl expert. "

T the attorney and my closest HS friend turns to me and says.......

LP the grass is not always greener my friend. Being in the courtroom daily is nothing glorious let me tell you. Having a wife and a family is pretty normal stuff to most of us. I think I might trade though my last 25 years for yours LP. See you have lived the life many of us secretly envy. Your life is far more carefree and contains less responsibility than ours. You have lived all over the country and have had numerous hot women at your side. The surgeon at this time says aloud yes T is indeed onto something and he would probably trade for my existence too. Todd continues with.......You have had the extra time for doing what you wanted to do because you never had kids. You play a ton of golf on some of the finest courses all over the country. You by far have the best game now (we played two rounds that reunion weekend) and also look in the best health out of all of us.  And then Todd dropped the bomb.....  and besides LP you did get a degree in higher education, it obvious to us all that you have a PhD in street smarts." Todd had shown me an angle I had failed to see.

So if I were asked if I could return to that fork in the road in the early 1980's might I have taken a different direction in a do over? I would answer that with no I would not. I played hard for many years and had a great deal of fun with numerous women. I have enjoyed living all over the country. It's been a very thrilling ride.

It is at 5 AM here in the Mountains as I sip my beverage and check in with my boys here on the thread. Today will be my 10th day in row at the Gnome Castle. I have not touched a club nor hit the links in quite a spell. It has been a mighty strenuous stretch of work for your commish that has included last weekends Member-Member, the Club Managers Assoc. of America's Board's summer conference over three days, the lady golfers member-guest, Match Play quarter finals, plus the regular 200 members and their guests golf rounds found daily on the tee sheet. Add in a large wedding yesterday and one even more grand wedding today with 250 in attendance. My days have started quite early and my quitting times have been far later than normal. This old boy is pretty shot. Feet don't fail me now. I will push through today's full slate of action once more and then finally cross my finish line. I will have 4 days off in a row starting tomorrow. Sunday shall be a day of rest and then I hope to tee it up each of the next 3 days. It is peak season where I work and that means events a plenty. I ask for your patience in my tally totaling regarding the 3M tournament from MinnesOOOOOta.

A few photo's from the 89* scorcher day that was Friday in Asheville. Those are two of the valet staff. JR is on the right. He and I resemble one another even though I have him by thirty years. 🙂

I was thinking I needed something unique to post in celebrating the fact that our thread is hitting the 200 page mark this weekend. That is quite a milestone. We have carried on for almost one entire year. I have been seeking something fun that contained golf, had music, and featured skin. I found just that something. I try to never disappoint our members here as well.

Congratulations gents and thank you for all of your participation.
