Let's see I have to finish the story of how the upside down Banshee made it to the shore. I have to put up a fido photo from an immediate family member, and this dog related post will for sure get some big attention here. I am also guaranteeing that it will bring the best responses out of you guys. And finally I have to disclose who the cool guy from D.C. was that visited yesterday.   

 

I flew around all day. We had 3 groups of 25 golfers plus the normal high volume member's play on the tee sheet. Oh, and one of the groups were from this outfit. The higher ups at  BFCC had their undies in a bunches.  

 

 

 

 

 

So it's sailing wreck recovery, dogs, and my surprise visitor. I will be back this evening.

There we were bobbing up and down in heavy seas getting rained on as lightning crackled above. We were wearing our life jackets because if I wasn't, the blonde dude from Detroit was surely going to end up being strugeon food the summer of his 14th year.

First I am fearing my lord there is a good chance we could drown out in the middle of Torch Lake. Then I start to think of how upset Worth was going to be finding out we ventured way past the boundary line and crashed his new boat. Our mother's on shore knew we were out there sailing as they always kept a watch on us with binoculars when we went sailing. The daredevil that I always was as a young boy took over. There was decent wind so I just kept sailing the Banshee much further from the shore and way past Worth's boundary line.

Paul and I both made it to the hull and hung on shivering in shock. Once the moms, who watched from the shore the fast incoming storm hit right above us they new there was going to be an emergency. Then ran inside and called the Antrim County Rescue Dept. and the coast guard. Madelin and Dorris then went up and down Lake St. in a frantic state knocking on cottage doors asking if the man of the house, someone, anyone would brave the storm in their boat and go try to rescue Paul and Larry. We were out there for 40 minutes as the winds whipped and lake waves tossed the hull about with us clinging to it. It was very choppy so the two rescue boats that were headed our way did so in far less than the full throttle position.  Now I was taught and did practice righting my sailboats from the turtle position, but I did so in flat still conditions. I surely was not accomplishing that feat in 5 foot seas and very scared. Besides I broke the boom from the mast. I new that having the boom disconnected and submerged added a special mess to the situation. I figured that only the Coast Guard could pull her up. A Coast Guard helicopter came over us. One C.G. boat arrived and right behind it was Mr. Thomas and Mr, Greely in Greely's Sea Ray. We were rescued. The busted Banshee was brought to shore by the C.Guard. Worth got the parts needed up from the Chicago dealer and repaired the rigging himself. Oh I was severely punished. I was grounded indoors for many a night. I became a pro at sneaking out of my window though when Madelin feel asleep, see I had this Dr.'s daughter to squeeze and smootch on a few cottages down Lake Street.

Gentlemen, let me introduce you to the greatest animal lover I know. My stunning sister Lisa Catherine. The child that Madelin and Worth had after they chilled out and conceived one following adopting me. Oh we were taken for identical twins in grade school. The likeness was crazy.  

 

When my sister bought a larger home with a decent backyard she started her collection. Lisa started rescuing dogs. My sister sought out the precious abandoned souls that she felt would be for certain overlooked. Nacho has but 3 legs. The pack is aging now but they get caring attention every day and they have lived their lives in home where they were loved and cherished. That's my Lisa. 

 

my sister is indeed dating.

Even with the uneasy situation in Japan they are going to lift the curtain. There are headlines filled with negativity a plenty regarding these games. Maybe we should see one angle more clearly and promote that. This being these athlete's have dedicated years to get to this level. Their passion to be the best should not be overshadowed by the monster that is covid. I am going to look at the games with this in mind.   

 

Here's to success for all our American Olympians, now go show them some USA sass boys and girls.

So early Tuesday morning I am shuffling through the name labels to be affixed on the guest lockers. I run into one name and my mind immediately returns back to my D.C. days. Could that be him I wondered? Naw that is a common name and it's just a coincidence I figured and went on with my opening duties. I checked in the fab four from the ATL at 10 AM. I had completely forgotten about that name that stood out in the guest locker section. I was with my favorite members from Georgia for thirty minutes getting them square. The Atlanta boys were golden. I was walking though the front parking lot when a nice bright red Acura pulled in. I spied the Maryland tags. We do not see many from the Crabby State here in the mountains. Then I spied the license plate frame stating Bethesda Maryland. I approached the driver's door and as the driver was getting out I greeted him in a deep voice with " Oh we have some D.C. golfers here do we?" Mr. Campbell replied with, " Now just who is asking?"  Once I heard the voice I knew it was him. I introduced myself and told him I knew him when he was the famous WRC TV-4 weekend entertainment/movies critic guy because I had lived in Fairfax County, Va.  from 1981-1996. From that first handshake in the parking lot a new friendship was made. The entire day became special for both of us. I gave Arch and his buddy my top tier best. I took them on my in depth 20 minute tour of the gnome castle and spoke of it's history. I explained the golf course and escorted them to the  practice facilities. Arch and I flashed back to mid 80's and mid 90's D.C. , we did a good bit of conversing. We talked Redskins, the Clinton years, restaurants, bars, his fellow TV personalities, and all things D.C. area golf. Arch and I made each other's day in Asheville better. 

Mr. Campbell was grateful he immediately ran into a host upon his arrival who had D.C. ties that was more than willing to give him the VIP treatment. He told me I made his first visit to the soon to be one hundred years old Donald Ross North Carolina classic far more memorable.

If I make it to D.C. Arch and I are playing at his club Columbia C.C.

The love of this wonderful game combined with working in the hospitality industry has allowed me for decades to cross paths with new and interesting people. I liked working Tuesday.
