Never Let One Bad Hole Define the round, How about 2!

Played the standard Friday Game at the local course, Skin, Pins, Quota, Blind Team Score. I'm a 16 on this par 71 course. It stars out fine on 1, 2 putt par. On 2 a par 5; left fringe, yank the next one in the water, skull a sand shoot, (nearly take out one of the guys) "9". On the next hole OB "8". So after 3 holes I'm sitting 21 life is good, wheres the cart girl! Finish with a couple pars 49, well it was starting to look better at the end of the front. So, On to the back; start with a Par then a double boogie, boogie, boogie, well looks like a donate day. Then it starts, par, par, bird, boog, par end with a 39 for an 88. "WOW" How I end up with an 88 is anyones guess but I did make a few bucks. ?

Moral of the story "Never let one hole define your day" or two.?

I wish it were that easy. Two weekends ago, first round of our club championship. I'm on hole #2.

I absolutely murdered the best drive I've had on that hole all year. It's a 370 yard par 4, and my drive left me in the fairway only 80 yards out. I pull out lob wedge, and hit it thin and about 10 yards off the back of the green. The pin is very close to the back edge, and I have a very delicate downhill lie. Virtually impossible to stop it anywhere close to the pin.

My first shot I attempted to land it in the rough with the hopes it would bounce up and and least stop within 10-15 feet. I came up short of the green. Next shot of course I landed on and rolled 25 feet by the pin. I then proceeded to 4-putt my way to an 8.

I hit the best drive of the year on that hole, and I walk away with a quad. And it was only hole 2 of 36 holes for the club championship. How do you not let that bother you the entire round?

I am the king of this mental dumbassery. About 6 months ago I came back to golf after a 5 year break (was for a few different reasons, but my mental well being was a big one). I still get a bit torqued at a horrid swing producing a bad shot, but I have learned that I do not play this game for a living and having a good time is the only reason I still play. After our club championship where I posted the two worst back to back rounds since I came back, I have left my anger behind and learned to just play each shot for that shot, each hole for that hole. If I make a bad swing, well, go find the ball and make a good swing. I have been a single digit for most of my golf life and am around that now, but I really do not care. I have gotten into a good group of guys that plays every Sunday morning with lots of betting and skins, etc., and am having the most fun I have had playing golf in 25 years. I do not hit the ball very long anymore,  but I am pretty decent at recovering and shot making. Last Sunday I shot like 92 and 3 putted 6 greens with one 4 putt. It wasn’t a bad round ball striking, but couldn’t putt to save my life. Monday I came back, emptied my mind and just had a good time. I didn’t even keep my score, my playing partners did. I shot an 82 and it could have been sub 80 very easily if not for one double and one triple. Putting was back on track with only one 3 putt and a couple of birdies. My point is, when you don’t concentrate on the result, the game can be so much fun...

That is the story of golf, its like 18 chapters that make up you story for the day. The best is when you talk about your chapters at the clubhouse over a nice pitcher of Beer. Keep playing till the round is over.

Did that last time out. Had the worse front nine I've had in years. Shot a 50 with a birdie. My only thought after that was have fun and don't shoot in the 100's (have not shot in the 100's in years). Shot a 39 on the back to break 90 which I thought was a great save to the round.

This year it has been tough to practice enough to retain good feel. This has been an issue especially with putting and very weirdly, bunker play. Normally a no fear area, the trap, but this year he has been inconsistent and it goes back to lack of really any practice.

Also, putting with the flag in has been a real adjustment that has really not happened tor JP.

Well put.

Add to this, that unless you golf for a living it’s supposed to be fun.

Enjoy!
