Arccos first round

Have you tried using them yet?  I believe that everything worked just fine from day one for me.

Hi Mystery:

I have not.   However, when I go into the user interface and select shot detection there is an X for Watch. If I select Watch, then I get a pop-up that states "I must play 36 holes using the phone for shot detection before you can unlock the Apple Watch shot detection experience".  See attached screen shots.IMG_4271.PNG.d9f4f146c4e27108fd255ac15dd726b1.PNG

Arccos say the same the same thing on their website.  Their reasoning is that they want me to learn how to use the application first on my iPhone.

There is no way that I am going to play two rounds of golf with a phone in my front pocket.  In fact, none of my golf shirts even have a front pocket.

If I can not use the Watch to start, I am going to cancel my subscription to caddy before I have to pay the $99/annual fee.

Grips don’t really make a difference really. Still adds the length and weight on the butt end of the club. It’s just adding the benefit of a seamless integration.

Can always cut down your shafts that 1/8" or however much the embedded sensor adds length wise. As for swing weight I don't think these add much to the grip, you can always contact Arccos and see how much a certain grip weighs and compare it to stock but I doubt it will change much maybe a point on swing weight but I doubt you can feel the difference, most guys can't unless you're Tiger or Rose.

It's shorts pocket not shirt pocket and it's honestly not that bad, I played with mine and my phone is huge and honestly didn't notice it.

I can understand what they are saying with getting to know and understand the interface because you will need to edit some shots and add penalties, etc.

I honestly don't see the big deal playing 2 rounds with a phone in your pocket, just have some lazy laid back rounds.

And the question remains.  Is there a way to defeat having to play 36 holes before you can use the Watch to detect shots?  Surely we are all intelligent enough to simultaneously learn how to use the application and still use the watch to detect shots for the first 36 holes.

Don

BTW.  If Arrcos has some technical reason for doing this I am OK.  If not, this is just an unnecessary limitation that makes me want to buy ShotScope.

The way to defeat the silly 36 hole restriction before using Watch for shot detection is to manually enter two bogus rounds.   Then after I play two real rounds, delete the bogus rounds.  Hopefully, this will help others.

Yeah - it's interesting as this "the sensors don't matter" argument as it's one that TXG makes often with regards to Arccos (of which they are the Canada distributor ...).  That said, they also make the counter argument with regards to "heavy grips" to counterbalance.

In my mind, anything that makes a difference in your head, makes a difference in your golf.  Weather that's the "look" of a club, belief that offset makes you hook / lack thereof makes you slice, or even how a hole "fits your eye".

I'm just hoping I can train my mind to ignore them as I was able to with Shotscope - as I really like the functionality.

Naturally it makes a difference. Whether that starts in your head or is just the physical element doesn’t really matter. Many golfers go through an in depth fitting these days to land on a club length and swing weight that  would be preferable.

The sensor is about 1/2” in length and I think it’s 8 grams on the butt end. it makes your ideal club less ideal.

My gripe is more with the length. As I naturally grip the club towards the end. To cut down the shaft and work with the Arccos grips is the last thing I will do. Waste a perfectly fit club.

So i have an Apple watch and like the idea for using the app as a range finder. Have others with the Apple watch also gotten the LINK? If it wasn't backordered and $129 i would consider it no question but may consider if others have found a benefit.

Yes.  Phone in the bag, link on the belt, and the Apple Watch used for yardages.  Works well.

I've got about 10 rounds in now and I'm starting to get good data.  I have an old Apple Watch Series 2, but I don't like wearing a watch during a round.  Brought it out to try once, but it was having trouble starting the round on the watch so I turned it off and put it away in my bag.   The iPhone occasionally (once or twice a round) misses a shot.  That's not a problem, I can fix it easily.

Actually I made a last minute decision to change driver shafts and I forgot to change the sensor over, so I had to manually enter my drives today.  It was still not a big hassle.  I'm looking forward to learning good things from Arccos.

I played my first round this week, my second will be tomorrow. It didn't pick up my second shot on most holes and I had to add the shot in.  I send them an email and got a lengthy response about things to try.

I am using a Pixel 2 in my left front pocket (and I swing left). I cleaned the mic and will try some of the other things they recommended and hope for the best. I just got if off ebay for pretty cheap, so my expectations were also pretty low, but it would be cool if it works.

I might keep an eye out for a used link.

My second round was much better. There were only a few missed shots I had to correct and it over counted my putts once. I think the link might help, the tracking is cool.
