any tips for cold weather golf?

The most important tip for winter golf - lower your expectations for everything and  be thankful that you are able to get out and get some fresh air. If you need to have 3 or 4 layers on to get out there and play without freezing over then, there is no way that you are going to be able to swing it the way that you would want to so there is no way that you are going to be able to play the way that you want to.

 

I also think that a warm up is more important than ever when it is cold out. Speaking from experience, having gone out there a little stiff and not warmed up properly, I have paid the price for it.

all good suggestions - one thing I'll add is if you are in the midwest like me, and its always wet in the Fall/Winter, try to get pants that are "flared" at the bottom so they cover the tops of your shoes (ie, not joggers) - definitely don't want to splash water over the tops of your shoes.

 

Also, I've pretty much went to wearing rain pants or snowboard pants, with athletic shorts underneath.  UA cold compression for a top baselayer as above, golf shirt, then either a vest (as above) or a jacket that has a down vest component then stretchy arms.

 

Also, keep the head warm!  Knit hat but also gaiters that everyone wears for masks now are perfect for keeping your neck warm, and then you can pull it up to get your face warm as well.

I don't think there needs to be a great deal of strategy put into this. 33F is ~1C, that is just above freezing. It's not warm but we're not talking "day after tomorrow" weather here either where people just freeze and turn to ice, and end up being displayed in museums. 

 

Wear a couple of layers, carry your bag so you can put your hands in your pockets, wear a tuque instead of a baseball hat, put baileys in your coffee....and you're all set

 

We teed off it was -1 or -2 with windchill on Sunday. It happens this time of year
