Best blade for 2020/2021

What's crazy is that back when they first made a comeback after Padraig and had Ricky Barnes playing them they advertised like crazy. Then they get an actual major win again with Woodland, which had been preceded by them getting hype from their Golf Channel club design show but they turn their advertising to zero and make it about impossible to test their gear. I don't get it, but maybe with their new Irons that will change. 

 

I love my Staff Model Blades and at some point will be getting another set as a backup if they don't "update" them. They are perfection on a stick and I'd let someone take my girlfriend on a date before I'd let anyone else near them. Just need to hunt down a 2-iron at some point cause they're custom only and it seems Wilson might be done with production. 

 

 

 

My guess is it's pandemic supply chain, combined with the increased interest in golf equipment.

Just picked up one of the $490 sets. For a brand new set of Japanese forgings with my fitted shaft in them you can’t really go wrong. Might grab a TWx if the long irons are too much work but the aesthetics are just about perfect for an iron.

Just a question to who knows about newer blade irons:

Other than weight distribution, are there any new technology involved in making newer model blade irons? I am looing for any good blade set but wondering if newer blade models are really about preference or something more.

A lot of guys point at tungsten plugs that are now being used, which are an attempt to move the CG a bit more away from the hosel, and some suggest increase MOI.  Using the CG location data in Maltby MPF, it *does* seem to move the CG a bit, about a tenth of an inch farther from the hosel.  Generalization there, obviously.  

 

The MOI effects don't seem to be there, at least not that I've seen in the data.  Most blades come in around 11 to 12 ounce-inches-squared, and the newer tungsten infused clubheads don't deviate from that.

 

The biggest change might be sole grind, but that's not really a new development.  MP33s are often used as the set that jump started the quantum leap in more forgiving sole grinds, but Mizuno really started that a decade prior, with the MS-11 / MP-11 set.  Bounce on blades!  Oh my!

Thank you very much for your answer! So, when it comes to blade irons, tech wise, i don't lose much by using older blade irons. I got a single 7-iron cally mb and I'm having so much fun practicing with it and thinking about getting any blade set haha.

I am normally a Ping fanboy but I bought a set of Wilson Staff blades and they are amazing.  I tried just about everything and these were hands down the best for me.
