Headed up to Crystal Downs this weekend (Saturday and Sunday golf), but looking to play on the way up there somewhere. My dad is coming up from Chicago and I am coming up from the Ann Arbor area, so it makes sense to meet and play somewhere north of Muskegon.

Here's options I am thinking:

  • Kingsley (If one of our pros can get us on)
  • Arcadia South (Bluffs only has a twilight @ 5:15pm)
  • Manistee National

What am I missing and/or any recommendations? Any hidden gems along west side of the state?

Maybe try Blythefield just north of Grand Rapids.

Hidden Gem in Ludington is Hemlock which I would recommend over Manistee National

Other option further south off 131 is Pilgrim's Run.

Kingsley is a no brainer if you can get on.

I would add Hemlock in Ludington and probably choose that over Manistee National.

I am  looking at this trip for Sept 24. I just can't figure out the best route to take coming from Nashville.

We have the option to fly into Traverse City or Manistee County Blocker, both with a stop at ORD.

We go every year from Wed-Sun.

My thoughts:

Fly into Manistee or Traverse City on Wednesday, drive to Arcadia and play 36 on Thursday.

Drive to Forest Dunes on Friday morning, play 18 in the afternoon.

Play what ever we didn't play at Forest Dunes on Saturday.

Fly out of Traverse City or Manistee on Sunday

Anyone have any better ideas for a Wed-Sun trip?  @knickerbocker

Going to Grand Rapids, Michigan this weekend for a Baptism and am trying to get a round in Friday afternoon. Driving up from Chicago Friday morning and hoping to be in the area around 1230-1pm.

Currently have a tee time booked at Thornapple Pointe since Pilgrim's Run closed last weekend.  I've played TP a couple years ago as well as Pilgrim's Run and would possibly want to try a new course.

Any recommendations that is not too far from Downtown? Hoping for a course in good shape for this time of year.

Courses I was also considering were The Mines, Diamond Springs (would get dropped off on the way from Chicago).

Diamond Springs is a neat course but it is very much in the middle of nowhere.

I would consider L.E. Kaufman in Wyoming, right off US131/44th St.  It's a very solid course.   Can't attest to the conditions, since I haven't played since July.  If you're on the other side of town, maybe Boulder Creek in Belmont.

I love the Meadows at Grand Valley State, it's always in great shape. 15ish minutes from downtown

Dang. Thrornapple is always solid and the Mines is good(same designer as Pilgrim's, and Diamond Springs for that matter), I just haven't played there this year so not sure on conditions. The aforementioned Kaufman is usually good too.

Skip Kaufman. We’ve had a lot of rain with more tonight and tomorrow. At least four holes will be under water. In drier conditions it’s a solid track with great greens.

Played in Twin Lakes "big cup" scramble tournament yesterday and made an Ace on Woods #4.

191 yards, guessed it to be playing around 205 with the temp and wind. Hit a 5 iron.

The crazy thing is I had the exact same shot on Links #2 and missed making a 2nd one by an inch or two as it grazed by the right edge and around the back of the cup.

We split the cash up as a team, since it was skin money. One of the guys left early, so I bought three double bourbons for the rest of us and that was only $50 after a $10 tip.

I also won CTP, which was a $50 gift card. I'll give that to the wife to buy some golf apparel.

Hello,

I moved from the Metro Detroit area up to the Tri City area this year (Midland/Bay City/Saginaw) and I've been looking around at private clubs/nicer public clubs to become a member at.

Does anyone have any recommendations? My current public prospects are either Bucks Run or Pohlcat, with Pohlcat being significantly cheaper than Bucks Run. I've looked into Midland CC and Saginaw CC, but their prices for a junior (under 35) membership are a little high for my budget.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Anyone get out this week?  I didn't but went past a course this afternoon and it was PACKED.

I played 9 at Twin Lakes to complete all 12 months of Michigan rounds in 2023.

I'm only 5 weeks removed from a hip replacement, so I was swinging gingerly but still had a blast.

I’m looking for opinions on Greywalls. Vacationing this summer in northern Wisconsin but not all that close. Trying to decide if I take a day to drive over and play it or not. Would be 2.5-3 hour drive each way. Playing after a drive of that length doesn’t bother me.

Sand valley is a similar drive and I have done that trip already. Have considered Sentry World but from what I know I’m not sure if it’s my cup of tea or not.

One of the best courses there is, other than 18. I really couldn't recommend it more.
