I'm not trying to be a party pooper but I won't say Lyds is "back" until she wins another major and possibly a couple more regular tournaments.  I think she will, and I want her to, but i have the "fecal touch" when it comes to supporting athletes/teams.  Need a stock to tank?  I'm your guy, I'll buy it and surely it will go down.  Her form certainly seems back though, even if amplified by a resort course (which I have played, and very much re-emphasizes my comparative suckiness).

 

On the Lydia topic though, I will echo what others have said.  She seems genuine and is easy to root for.  I know she was probably facing inner demons, but I recall we met her after the 2018 Open and she didn't seem like someone who just finished T49 (I think?).  Sure, a lot of that may have been polished by her handlers, but it didn't come off forced at all.

 

Looking forward to continued displays in the future, she looks on a tear.

@WestTex ... so you think Lydia will win again and you want her to, but you're concerned about having a "fecal touch"?    Are you certain that is what you meant to write or was it a "fickle touch" or a "feckless touch"?   😄  

 

Regardless, it is nice to see Lydia playing well and I think it underscores how much the LPGA has improved over the years in terms of how many top notch players there are and how competitive it is.

There was some debate in this thread, or another, about what was NYC's best Rolex Ranking. I looked it up, but unfortunately the Rolex rankings only go back 10 years.

 

I found she had reached No. 2 about 8 times, but never got the top spot. Kind of the Credence Clearwater Revival of women's golf. Does anyone know if she reached top spot prior to April 2011?

NYC ... never made it to No.1 ... her best ever was No.2

OK - Here's what I found from the lpga site, and I took, as you say, the last ranked player from the 2019 season since 2020 was shortened and the 2021 is pretty young🙂. I've also indicated the 100th placed and 1st place data as well.

 

Driving Distance - 239 yds (255 yds, 283)

Driving Accuracy  - 52.2% (70.3%, 84.1%)

GIR - 56.5% (67.5%, 79.6%)

Putts per GIR - 1.91 (1.82, 1.72)

Putting average - 31.8 (30.2, 27.5)

Sand Saves - 19.5% (40.8%, 62.5%)

Scoring Avg - 75.2 (72, 69.0)

Overall results from the Race to CME - bit hard to get players with good statistics for those at the bottom since they had played in so few events, so just considered 1 and 100th.

Jin Young Ko who finished first (22 events played) had the following stat line - 258, 81%, 79.5%, 1.75, 29.8, 39.7%, 69.06

Alison Lee's stat line (100th from 18 events played) - 265, 69.3%, 67.8%, 1.79, 29.96, 35%, 71.70

 

I'm not shy - so here are my stats from my last 20 recorded rounds that were used to get my hcp - 242yds, 47%, 36%, 2.19, 35.7, 12%, 84.1.

If you only count the best 8 rounds that count towards my scoring average was 79.5.

 

In summary - LPGA players are pretty darn good if that wasn't obvious enough.

 

First time I've even considered this, and it's eye opening - I always thought the tee shot was holding me back because at the courses I play on, the majority of them if you miss the first cut off the fairway, it's pretty much a lost ball, and you're playing a provisional. As it obviously shows - my approach and putting is pathetic! I know what to prioritise this year!!

No. Wikipedia has a list of the #1's going back to 2006, the first year the rankings came out: Rolex Rankings

 

In the period of 21 Feb 2006 through 17 March 2013, the #1's include Annika (60), Lorena (158), Jiyai (25), Ai (11), Cristie (5), and Yani (109).

Good.

 

What I looked at was the Rolex site also, but it was tracking an individual player week by week. And that cut out at 10 years.

 

From all this we can for sure that NYC never made No. 1. But it would be interesting to know how many times she made No.2.

That is very much what I meant to write, lol.  If I support something, invariably, it will tank.  Some have a Midas touch, Me? Not so much,  Apologies to Lydia in advance... 😬

Somewhat long driver shaft length for Lydia, i'd say.  I mean compared to many other pro golfers.  All clubs PXG, except custom shafts. 

Her choice of shoes, sox, gloves, grips, tee peg length and material, etc not mentioned. (insert smiley face).

The shaft length might explain the added distance. Lol. 

 

Joking aside, Lydia's not your typical 4 handicap. Brooke's is 48 inches, although she does choke down an inch or two. Lydia also chokes down. I have to imagine they've optimized the length for her consistent swing.
