Wilson Staff Model CB/Blades

In the market for new irons and kinda wanna go 8-PW blades and something a bit bigger for 7 downwards and these two wilson irons go nicely together anyway have these two irons. How do they compare to irons like ZX7.

I played the wilson blades all of last yr and currently playing the cb's.   I combo'd the blades with the 5-6 wilson v6s and was outstanding.   Instead of doing the same and replacing the the v6's with the cb's I just went with the full set of cb's which now I'm selling bc Im missing the blades in the shorter irons.  Mid and long irons in the cb's look and play great and they will pair nicely if you decide to combo.

What was it that you didn’t like about the Wilson staff cb irons?

Tried Wilson CB in my fitting last week.  Very nice to hit, softer feeling than ZX5/7.  If you like a short blade length you might like these.  I didn’t so I gave them a miss.  Look like they forgot to put a toe on them.  Beautiful looking irons though.

Coming from srixon 785s these Wilson cbs have been incredible. I tried pretty much every cb and blade on the market and the cbs are the best blend of feel, forgiveness, playability, turf interaction in my humble opinion out there

Demoed the ZX7, Staff CB and T100 a couple of weeks ago.

I am currently playing P7MC and found the ZX7 was by far the most forgiving club

Hit the CB last week and was pleasantly surprised.  Was getting probably 1/2 a club or more out of them than I do my t100.  I kept thinking that there had to be a loft difference, but there isn't.  Very nice irons.  Felt fantastic.

I was ready to order a set of Staff CBs last week, but was advised Wilson is out of heads and doesn't expect more "for weeks."

CB’s are fantastic. I switched to them from Srixon and couldn’t be more pleased. Basically no loss of carry since I hit them in the middle way more than the Srixons (sole issue for me). I also snagged a set of D7 Forged recently and can’t believe how much I like them. I’d never considered Wilson before but they are incredible.

I’d never hit Wilson either til this year, I’m happy I did. I know they are 8620 steel but they feel super soft to me.

I haven’t hit the CBs but have owned the blades since last summer. The blades are great!! When I was looking last summer I hit a lot of different irons ( mizuno 921 tour and Mp20, TaylorMade 760, titleist 620 and t100) and nothing was really standing out, the owner said do me a favor and hit these, it was the Wilson blades. They were noticeable better than everything else I hit. I have since tried to knock them out by testing a couple other irons and haven’t been able to do it yet. The Wilson blades are easy for a blade, they just perform!

What shafts do you have in the D7 Forged irons?  I am considering picking up a set.

@chriskilmeri found a like-new set with the stiff $-taper lite shafts. In my first range session i struggled a little with timing, but by day two they felt awesome and provide a great flight.

99% chance my next set of irons is going to be a mixed set of the staff model blades and CBs, with a staff model gap wedge (already have and love the sand wedge) and I wouldn't be surprised to wind up with the tour grind lob wedge. That's the lob wedge concept I know and love, and I like but don't love my T20. I've been a long time Mizuno player and my MP20 MMCs are definitely great clubs, but I can't get over the handful of times I've had a staff model blade put in my hand. They just suit me really really well. When I got into Mizuno decades ago they were one of the only readily available options that achieved the quality of product and craftsmanship they do. They're still great, but now a whole lot others are as well, and that rounded Wilson sole and the position of their sweet spot seems to speak to me more than what Mizuno is doing.

 

CB would start either at 7 or 6. Thankfully Wilson does their lofts consistently, so it's really a toss-up.

The shorter blade length makes these Wilsons a stronger contender to me vs long heads like the Srixon line. I find longer blade lengths do nothing for me except make the club less workable and encourage lining up shots too much toward the toe.

This year’s CB is one of the best looking sets across all major brands. It’s also one of the best feeling irons at impact. I figure a set will end up in my bag one of these days.

I have given the D7 Forged a go but they lack the amazing feel of the CB’s, therefore the CB’s are back in. I am having the D7 4-iron reshafted in DG S300 to try it as a slightly better bridge between 5-wood and irons. For those on the fence, the CB’s are amazing.
