Grips...Why the cost? Budget vs OEM

It all worked out. In the end, they made good and I was happy. It was the first time I’ve ever had any problems with any grip they sell. Generally if it’s available thru Golfworks, I trust it to be playable at the very least. I’ve seen people report grips sometimes splitting at the seam, but that has never happened to me.
 

Recently, I tried out Champkey grips based on Mobile Club Maker’s review. $50 for 13 grey MCS grips. They are a reduced taper design copy of the Golf Pride MCC plus 4. As far as tolerance goes, they all weighed in at +/- 1g of the stated weight. The feel isn’t quite as soft as a real MCC plus 4. I’d call them more of a cross between that grip and a Karma V Cord— which I kind of expected. I’d recommend anyone giving them a try to give the grips a good scrubbing after install. The black rubber color came off on my hands a bit the first few uses. But after I scrubbed them this stopped and it also softened the grips a bit.

what I do buy from Home Depot is the green Frogger painters tape. Best build up tape I’ve found. For installing with air I just squirt one spray of solvent into the grip, aiming mostly at the beginning of grip. Just makes it slide in a little easier and doesn’t make an obnoxious squeaking sound then when installing. 

 curious why the green tape? I've been using Blue tape.  But I do exclusively use green tape when I mask off for home painting.  once it gets a little wet, the glue activates so that there is no paint seepage at all.  It is literally the best masking tape for painting, but they are very specific about you have to keep it dry so it can work as paint masking tape.  Have you had issues with it falling apart when you take grips off?  I guess i just need to try a club or two.

I have a ton of Lamkin REL Ace Gen 3, my favorite grip. You can still find them for 3 bucks a piece if you know where to look.

i have had nothing but success with the green tape. It feels a little thicker than the blue, is very durable and survives multiple grip swaps.

Decided to give these budget grips a go. My G400 Max had a GP Align grip on it I've come to hate, so I figured it's as good a chance as any. My preferred current grip is along the lines of the Lamkin Crossline, so I chose the Saplize in grey. Just arrived and I installed on the Ping. Color me impressed. Size is just right, color is as described, no real smell, just the right softness, and easy to install. First round tomorrow, so I'll have to report back, but for $50, not bad.
