I had heard the announcers say the pit entry was awkward......

That is a nutty qualifier. Russell is in the best spot on the grid in the next to slowest car out there. You know the McLaren has the jump on the start, so if Norris gets off clean, he could win his first grand prix after getting P2 last race.

That's awesome.

Yeah, he is sitting in a great position even if his lap times were slower than the merc/Lewis on inters. I also think he will struggle vs slicks. This may come down to how long he can keep Lewis behind him and pit strategy. Going to be a great race.

That was an epic finish. Max goes from P20 to P2.

I give Norris credit for trying to tough out the rain. Well driven.

Seriously. Some of the stops have been straight awful.

If there would have been a few more laps left, Max might have caught Lewis before the finish.

The dumbest thing is, they were claiming it was a safety thing.  Well, Red Bull were the only ones sub 2 seconds, and they never had a wheel come off.  Had that happened, I could see why they put that in.  But it comes across as more of a solution in search of a problem, rather than something that was needed.  (unless you're Mercedes and don't like the advantage it gives Red Bull.)

Really? Max finished 53 seconds behind Lewis.

He went from 20th to 2nd in 51 laps. Lewis didn't even know Max was P2 until they told him at the end and he was shocked.

He knows Max will likely win this year and next year is going to be a 4 way fight. But this year is his best shot for an 8th title and I'm not sure he can pull it off.

Only because Mercedes has won all the titles in the turbo-hybrid era do I say McLaren are dancing the hardest after hearing this news.

WTF is Binotto thinking?

Although my short memory can't recall if it was here or elsewhere that I read about Leclerc being signed long term had more to do with fitting the image and being good looking as opposed to racing chops.

I read he was looking at a 6 year deal. I know Mick has plans to finish what his dad started at Ferrari eventually, so there is that.

I am looking forward to seeing Sainz with the new power unit next race.

So if Hamilton takes a grid penalty for a new PU, will he charge all the way to 2nd like Max did last race? I know he can.

I know Lando is pissed and wants a win before the end of the season.

He will win the race because RB will have a gun problem in the pit and end up with a 25 second pit stop.

Coming up with "safety rules" because RB is a full second faster than you in the pits is just silly.

I will say the white looks great even if it isn't in Japan.

It does.  Too many cars already in white on the grid to make a permanent switch, but it does look quite nice.

Sometimes it seems like Hamilton is such a whiney little b****. 🤣

That was a great race in the almost rain. I hope Austin is good, I know Miami is trying hard to seem like the place to race.

Great race this week. Just enough rain kept it interesting. Chapeau to Ocon! Zero stops and finished in the points...

He hasn't stopped. He still thinks he would have been at least 3rd if he wouldn't have stopped. Even Pirelli said after looking at his tires he wouldn't have made it.

That's a bit of a stretch..

"I've seen some of the press this morning which has made a bit too much of the incident in yesterday's race of when to pit. It isn't true to say I'm furious with my team," he wrote.

"As a team we work hard to build the best strategy possible but at the race progresses you have to make split decisions there are so many factors constantly changing.

"Yesterday we took the risk to stay out hoping it would dry, it didn't. I wanted to risk it and try and go to the end, but it was my call to stay out and it didn't work. In the end we did pit and it was the safest thing to do.

"We live and we learn. We win and we lose as a team. Don't ever expect me to be all polite and calm on the radio when I'm racing, we are all very passionate and in the heat of the moment that passion can come out, as it does for all drivers.

"My heart and spirit are out there on the track, it's the fire in me that's got me this far but any angst is quickly forgotten and we talked it through, already looking ahead to the next race. Today's another day to rise and as a team. Still we rise."

So new TV provider and still learning the ropes.  Including how to set up a manual recording so that you go beyond the programming window to catch a race that goes over the scheduled time. Inputting the wrong channel is one of those ropes apparently.  So rather than coming home to see a race, I get a replay of a football game from the night before I really didn't care about.  Grrr.....

Buddy of mine said the race was pretty processional, but glad to see Hamilton gave some entertainment value.  Hamilton is most certainly not the gracious sportsman when he doesn't win.  His team makes many mistakes according to his radio.

What is interesting is the talk of Colton Herta getting the seat.  Supposedly it would require some kind of exemption because Herta doesn't have enough points on his superlicense.  FIA rigs it so that F2, and possibly even F3(which they run) get more points than IndyCar.  Talk is Liberty Media really wants an American driver and thus would pressure to make an exemption.  Although I'm not sure Herta would be the guy you would want.  Not saying he wouldn't be a good driver, I'm just not sure how marketable he would be.  Might be a better driver than Rossi, but Rossi seems like he might be more marketable.

Yeah, as much as I would like to see an American in F1, I also want them to earn it, not like Mazpin. 🤣

I thought it was awesome to watch Sainz charge up the field. Also watching Perez battle Hamilton was clearly the highlight.

Wow, Q3 was the grid poster. Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Alpha Tauri. There's your top 5 constructors.

Hamilton managed to squeeze out Perez on his last lap, dammit.

I noticed that as well.  Only 5 teams in there.  They almost lined up in rows by team(although penalties throw that out of whack.)

On a side note, I have to say that while I was leery of Danica Patrick as an analyst, but I was pleasantly surprised.  She is raw, and can use some polish, but wasn't bad.  I was expecting a lot of cliches, and "shout out" and useless words, but she actually wasn't bad.  Also makes me wonder if we are seeing the difference between English and American producer mentality.  She also keeps her questions short, which is an underrated but extremely rare skill in interviewing.
