Wilson Fi5 irons

Great looking set of irons for a forged combo set. If you like traditional lines on an iron these heads look great.

Why is there no buzzzz? Anyone hit them or have an opinion?

:) I found you. JUICEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Not you juice. You just bought a new set of pro-combos. The last thing you need is to look at these. Hate to see you liking them to much. Honestly, I was at Carls last week and they looked nice. But no buzz at all. 8,500 members and no mention that these irons exsist. Whats up? No love for Wilson???

Not hit those but the new dh6 hybrid is the best hybrid I have tried. Simple black paintjob, minimal offset like the bridgestone or nickent and sit's dead square with no left in it all. Standard nano shaft plays firm to flex and the only reason I am changing it is that it's too light. Even last years hybrid that looked dreadful played well.

New drivers are good too- both sit square and the fairway woods look great. The forged wedge isn't bad either. The KC 4 is ok if you like an allignment putter.

I wonder if it's just brand snobbery that's stopping people from trying the clubs. TM, callaway, and Titleist aren't the be all and end all.

I have not hit these yet but think they look great. A full set of blades like he 8-pw would be a great set or irons, too. Currently, I am watching a set of these on ebay.

I currently play these irons and they feel fantastic. They are a smaller head and the forging is soft and you get incredible feedback from them. If you are a feel player these are definitely for you.

played a few rounds with a demo set of these and owned a set of Pi5's for most of last season....some fantastic and vastly underrated irons. i think the problem with them is the stigma many golfers have with wilson. many hear wilson and think 'fat shafts' and 'killer whale' but they have come a long long way. my very first set of sticks were wilson so i've always had an affinity for wilson and try and play or at least hit in a cage most of the stuff thats come out the past season or so.

I had a set about the time of the last ryder cup. Played with them for a while 5-P are great clubs while the 2-4 have an unfortunate weighting scheme that pops the ball up compared to the rest of the set. Also I'm never a big fan of forged irons with a short little ferrule. They need to be at least 3/4-1 inch long just to look right/traditional. Wilson put those sad looking little cast iron ferrules on them. Other than that they would probably sell better if they weren't priced at $799.

I love the look and finish of these but worry they would be more difficult to play than my KZG Evolutions which I am very comfortable with....anybody comment on their ease of use compared with say the Miz 32's or 60's ?

The problem with the Fi series is that the Pi series is "the bomb." I grew up playing the Wilson Staff Fluid Feel blades and have wanted a nice set since. Unfortunately, I had to live through the Gooseneck and Fatshaft era.

When the Fi came out, I had just bought a set of Mizuno's so I cannot justify getting another set. Nevertheless, I took the Fi and Pi out for a spin. While the Fi's are gorgeous and look unbelievable, the Pi's amazed me. Set up like a blade. Look "normal" but have great forgiveness without giving up playabilty.

I did buy a new Staff 5w and can't wait until Spring to try it out.

Simply put not to sound ornary but the reason they get no buzz is simple...they're Wilson Staff. I've said it before and I'll say it again...if the Pi5, Ci6 or Fi5 said Titleist, Mizuno, Taylormade, Nike or any other big OEM on them they would be hot sellers.

I love Wilson Staff and their products. The Px3 ball, Tw5 wedges, Pi5 irons and FwC 158 have all been extremely good to me.

Why do the long irons "look" like they have a smaller cavity than the middle irons? Is the stock photo at a weird angle or something or is that really how they look? Why would they design the longer irons this way?

Sandy, can you expand on the 2-4 irons playing "differently" than the rest of the set?

I owned this same set in 1992, but the were called "Progressives" back then. I had the 1 iron, 3 thru PW, SW and a LW that matched, but had a Frito Lay stamp on the back. They had Firesteel 1.8 torque or they were extra stiff. I shot some good rounds with them. I liked the 1 iron, and the 5 thru the LW. The 4 iron and I had a personal hate for each other, and at that time, I played a course that never seemed to have a 3 iron shot on it.

I have hit the Fi5, that a friend has and they are the same club. The new Wilson Staff irons are stronger lofted, than the set called "Progressive" from 1992.

Vijay Singh, played the Progressives when they came out in 1992. Somewhere from the early 1990's then Wilson Staff lost all their "pizzazz" or something. I hope that Wilson can continue to stay on the market, and not go the way of MacGregor Golf.

I ho clubs in and out of the bag pretty regularly and not too often do I regret getting rid of something.

I bought a used set of these last year in GREAT condition for a steal and played them for about 2 months. They are as good as advertised. One of the best looking, feeling, and surprisingly forgiving sets of irons I've ever owned. The progressive design was perfect.

That being said, I sold them and have now had about 3 sets since then. Every now and then I scan ebay looking for a nice set of these to bag again. I don't do that too often with other clubs I've sent packing. I think these were originally released in 2005 and there aren't many irons released since these that I can truly say are "better" (IMHO) and I've tried A LOT of irons.

The Fi5 are a serious set of sticks.

The FI5s are a nice set of clubs. But you want to have a reasonable ability to be center of the face the majority of the time. Like most forged clubs they are buttery smooth when hit in the sweet spot, but much outside that spot and they can be a source of punishment. That said, I think you can learn to be a great ball striker with these as they have a good sense of foregiveness and inspire confidence.

For me, however, they were just a bit too hard to hit consistently, but with my swing, consistency (or lack thereof) and skill level they were not a great match. That said, I have a set of M685 Macgregors that are easier to hit and I hope to be able to move back into the FI5s when I have improved my ball striking somewhat - they are a beautiful iron to look at and at address they are one of my fravouites .

Well I had a set of those for a year or so,as far as I can remember they were very punishing, probably moreso, incredible as this may sound, than the FG59, and a whole lot more than the MP33. Not sure why, as they are a progressive set, or may be my swing was off back then, but they certainly didn't help. The only pleasure I had with them was when I was looking at them.

Had em, sold em, regretted it ever since.
Clean lines, shiny, and a tremendous feel if you can consistently hit the 6th groove.
Wish I had kept them for the days when I feel like I'm hitting it better. As the op said - I don't go looking to rebuy "mistakes" that often, but I still keep an eye out for some Fi5's.
A bargain at the resale price. Grab them if you can if only to warm up on the range then stare at them afterwards.
