Help! Hybrid confusion.

I was fit for a TSi2 hybrid a few weeks ago and it just arrived. Upon closer inspection, I realized it’s a 24 degree lofted 5 hybrid. I was expecting something with less loft.

This club was supposed to fill the gap between my 3 wood (15 degrees) and 4 iron (21 degrees).

Did Titleist send me the wrong club or is this common? Would a hybrid with 24 degrees of loft ever be used to gap higher than a 4 iron with 21 degrees of loft?

Help - I’m confused.

I guess my question would be were you fit for a 24* 5h? I would hope they sent you what you were fit for. If they fit you for that club for that gap, don't try to do mental math and hit it and see.

Honestly, I don’t know. He put the TSi2 in my hands, made some adjustments, then ordered it. I didn’t know the specs until it showed up. He fit me for my whole bag and he’s been awesome so far but this just doesn’t seem right.

That doesn’t sound right.  It’s common for hybrids to be longer than the iron they replace but not 24 degrees being longer than a 21 degree club.

My same thought. Either Titleist sent me the wrong club or maybe my fitter fat fingered the order. I reached out to him but he hasn’t responded. Playing in a tournament tomorrow and was reallllllly lookin forward to using it.

That sucks!  I would not follow the advice of hitting it that the other  poster gave.  Not until I confirmed it was the right club.  Even delofted you could only lower it to 23 so it if you are hitting the 21 degree club well enough to justify having it, then it doesn’t make sense.  A 21 degree hybrid might gap fine with it but a 24 doesn’t make sense…

First would be to check with your fitter and see what was supposed to be ordered and go from there.

I agree that a 24* seems a bit much for the gap.

I will keep it out of the bag for tomorrow 😞

Thanks man

24 degrees is within the usual range for a 5 hybrid. If you were after a club to go between a 3 wood and 4 iron I'd think a 3 or 4 hybrid would have been more appropriate, so I agree that an error was probably made somewhere along the line.

That’s what I’m thinking. Something seems off.

My Titleist 4h is 25 degrees, my 5h is 27 degrees, neither says 4 or 5 anywhere.  There is no standard for what is or isn't a 4h or 5h, no reason to worry what label it has.  The only issue is loft.  Your fitter would know and you should have a record of what you were fit for.  If it was a 24 degree hybrid that's all that matters.

FWIW I go from a 22 degree  4 hybrid to a 23 degree 5 iron and that works well for me.

Yeah I'm a 23° hybrid to a 24° 5 iron and that also works well for me. It sounds like the OP would be better suited to a 19° hybrid to fill the gap between a 3 wood and a 21° 4 iron.

What's the SureFit adapter setting?  Is it possible it's the 24* but it's lofted down to fit your gap?

Doesn't sound right if you are actually striking the 21d iron well, which lets be honest: that's a 3 iron not a 4 iron and many of us don't have the speed and/or consistent strike to really get a 10-12y gap with long irons below a 5 or 6. Its possible the combination of added loft and a bit longer club showed a more consistent gap for your longest iron.

The number on the club to me is marketing as you can see a 3d or more difference in a 4 hybrid for example between models. My epic is a 4H is a 23. Rogue was a 22. Mavrik is a 21 but the mavrik pro is a 23.

Last iron I consistently hit is a 25-26. The 23-24 iron I can hit OK but I prefer my 23 4H then gap down to a 20 as my next head cover. 20-21d iron? Not even at the range for me 🙂

This particular club explicitly shows a 5_24 on the neck of the head.

If I can contact him and he says that’s it, I’m good with it. A 3 degree higher loft than my highest iron just seems weird to me.

It’s a set of Srixon ZX4s and I believe I strike the 4 iron pretty well. I’m not too concerned about the number on the club but that it’s actually higher lofted than the 4 iron. My old hybrid is lofted 18 degrees and filled the gap perfectly.

It very well may be a mistake, but with no data its hard to give more informed comments on launch/spin/distance and how the other club compares. It could be you provide dynamic loft with the 4i but with that hybrid your conditions are different or that club does in fact launch higher then the average bear. 🙂

Otherwise this is all back of the napkin comments and odds are its a mistake and you should be in the 20d range.

I personally play my hybrids shorter so loft determines my gapping more so then CHS.

Hope you get it sorted out. Seems pretty odd to me also but no idea how you hit your 4i or what the specs are on shafts, etc.  My 6i is 31 degrees, “5h” is 27 but it nicely substitutes for the 27 degree 5i, but I’d lost distance with the 5i and now have it back along with much better ball flight.

Update:

Well, it's confirmed - I received the wrong club.

My fitter finally got back to me and said it should be a 21 degree 4 hybrid. That certainly makes more sense. Even though the loft is the same as my current 4 iron, I would expect it to come off a little hotter. Should fill the gap nicely.

Thanks for all the responses. Good thing I didn't hit it!
