Mizuno ST-G

Just got the driver and it’s pretty impressive. I have the Ventus Black 6s in it and it feels very solid.  The head is slightly smaller than the Z but not dramatically smaller to see a big difference at address. The sound is more muted and to me that is fine.  I will have to put on trackman to see the numbers which I will do later today.  Enjoy.

I’ve heard this has a more metallic sound to it vs the Z model. Interesting to hear you say it is more muted. That was one of the 2 things that put me off from the ST-z. To loud and to long from front to back. I may have to give this one a go!

Looking forward to your comparison as well! I think this may be just as forgiving as the Z if both weights go on the back.

It's pretty forgiving. The question is can you launch and spin at the optimum numbers with the loft and shaft that will get you there.

I would like to hear more about the sound comparison as well? Love the shape and deeper face for sure, but hoping it's more on the muted side.

It is definitely more muted than the Z model. To my ear is is more muted with the weights in the back settings. It’s definitely not a low launching driver either. I’ve had to turn mine down a click. This is the longest driver I’ve hit in several years! Just trying to dial it in but I’m pretty sure it has kicked my SIM2 out of the bag!

Interested in this. Saw one of the Mizuno guys discussing on YouTube (yes I went down the rabbit hole for an hour) and am intrigued by the idea of a forgiving slightly fade biased driver. Meaning one weight in the back and one in the toe. I know there are some others that can make this configuration but loved to hear some reviews.

Just bought a ST-G off BST. Looking forward to taking her for a whirl. Will be my 3rd Mizuno driver, all this Stealth talk got me horny for a Mizuno, lol.

 

Shafts, have a few but a Velocore or an AV White might be the ticket, here.

I have an ST-Z just waiting on an adapter now...  I had no idea what to expect before receiving this head but I will say, it looks dang good.  Don't know if it will beat my SIM2 but I am looking forward to trying!!

Still playing my ST190 but I have hit the ST-G and it's even better! My spin with the Motore F3 went way down and I gained 15-20 yards of carry. That's huge for me. 

 

Anyone have that setup and looking to upload one..it's mine.

I have the STG and STZ as well. STG has a more rounded head, launches lower and is more muted. I like the feel on the STZ but love the feel of the STG.

 

I still haven't been able to do a head to head with data. My impression is the STG is lower spinning and longer overall, but I can't say for sure yet. 

 

BTW, STG and STZ are only 1g apart in head weight.

Anyone able to compare the ST-Z to the older ST 190?  The ST 190G was a bomber for me and the ST 190 was just meh overall.  I like the simplicity of the Z, much like the old M2 drivers, but the 190 just didnt do it for me....

Comparing the STZ to the ST 190 features differences that affect playability and consistency more than distance.  The ST 190 is a lively driver out of the middle and upper middle of the face.  Mizuno acknowledged that the area that is low on the face was not as responsive as it should have been (kind of an unusual admission for a manufacturer).  The face appeared to have a little more bulge and roll than most drivers I have seen and the dispersion was not particularly good.  Imo, the middle and upper middle of the face were quite lively and can match the STZ for distance.  I have both drivers and usually hit both of them in my practice sessions and usually swap out shafts.  The STZ is unquestionably straighter and more consistent and seems to have a lot less bulge and roll.  It also is better on toe and heel hits and is better with the Atmos Black and the motore x f3 shafts for shot quality.
