59.  I grew up watching Jack play.  18 majors.  19 times finished second.  Ain't nobody ever gonna beat that record.

That’s nice.

You should start a thread about that ; )

Meantime, what you got to say about the thread topic? 🤣

On a serious note though according to Tiger Jack is the GOAT. But no one will ever dominate like Tiger did in his peak, create the excitement and energy at a major like did. Take the 2018 PGA Championship for example, I highly doubt Jack ever brought that much hysteria to major he didn't even win. I think the fact that Tiger won his first major as a pro by 12 holds some weight.

Oh, sorry.  Here's a Tiger update...he will never break Jack's record.

How's that?  😮

Tiger said that Jack is the GOAT? Please post that. I haven't seen it.

I do know this story:

"Nicklaus and I were watching Tiger play on TV," Watson said. "I can't remember where it was. I think it was at the Senior Skins Game. So we were in Hawaii. I said, 'Bear, he's the best, isn't he?' Jack said, 'Yeah, he's the best.'"

most likely no.

if he still needed additional surgery on the ankle they would have done it already.

He’s in the rehab phase, which can take months to years.

his ankle was bad but not unheard of.

it will just take time to heal and he might only regain 80-90% of previous strength/mobility.

Not necessarily…..I had a ankle broken in high school….years later needed surgery to get the ankle cleaned up and aligned properly.  BUT, that surgery was a stop gap to getting a fusion or replacement.  Fast forward six years and while I was playing golf, at a decent low mid single digit level, the surgeon told me it was time for the next step which turned out to be a total replacement.
Not saying mine was “dust” like Tiger’s was, well as reported in these threads but elsewhere had various reports, but to do a replacement they need the bones to be able to to hold the prosthetic.  So it is possible to be standing, or even playing golf,  but still need further surgeries.

I am sure some that have been on these threads can better educate y’all than my description.

Sure, the best in the game at that time.  Jack has never said that Tiger is the GOAT.

Here's another Tiger update...

Jack’s contemporaries included Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Tom Watson and Lee Trevino, each of whom won six or more majors. Tiger’s biggest rival is Phil Mickelson, a guy best known for his collapses who not only failed to outduel Tiger on a Sunday, he failed to even duel him.

Phil won five majors but none with Tiger in the picture. Aside from him, there are just two other players with three major wins during the Tiger era: Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. The evidence suggests Tiger was beating up on inferior competition.

If you read the article, it's pretty obvious that he meant "the best of all time"...

It would not be noteworthy for Tom Watson to be asking Jack if Tiger was just the best in the game at that time...

Just about 65 here so saw a bit more of the Jack prime than some.

in my view Jacks majors can get him the greatest major champion acknowledgement but Tiger is definitely the best golfer to ever walk this planet.

I was mostly replying to this idea: "Like rehab the leg then when it’s recovered we’ll fix your ankle?"

My point was, if they saw something wrong with the ankle right now that they could fix through surgery now, they would do it.

They are not likely waiting for "the leg" to heal before "fixing the ankle".

All we have is a picture with him leaning on a club.  We have no idea yet what that means. Is he doing rehab on the way to being healed or still on crutches?
But yes, even if he is actually standing without crutches he may need more surgeries.  Sometimes they need to do it in steps.

Personally I will wait for further info before positing more.

Anything else would be like someone saying Cy Young won the most games ever so dang it he’s just the best pitcher ever.😏

Jack just happy he never had to get his butt kicked bad by Tiger.

Heres the thing.

We all know how great Jack was. Most of us would stack Jack right up with TW say win 4 out of 10 head to head with TW.

But stop with this trying to say TW anything but the best golfer to ever tee it up on the planet.

Cause we all know he is ; )

Very good SM, you’re breaking new ground with this.

Tell us more 🤣

Lol.  I think @triplebogeyblues started this, then you jumped in and piled on.  I just felt compelled to defend Jack's record...and I don't even like the guy.  But you can't argue with his record.

Sure, Tiger was the best golfer ever to tee it up on the planet...for about 12 months.  I just wish he hadn't gotten into the drugs.  He might have broken Jack's records.  Oh well.

Tiger was in the field for 5 of the 6 majors Phil won and his finished in those majors were t22-t4-t3-t4-t6.

Also his record at Augusta from 2006-2013 is amazing with the only thing missing being a win.

he finished at follows those 8 years: t3-t2-2-t6-t4-t4-t40-t4

I think he could've easily won 2-3 green jackets in that span.

And you’re saying he was the best for 12 months
