Best Custom Made/Designed Putter Manufacturer for under $500?

Hi Guys - I know you can order a Taylor Made MyTP for $350 on up, but are there any other boutique/custom putter manufacturers that you recommend and have dealt with?  I’m interested in seeing what’s out there.

Compass and Legacy Goods are the two I’ve used that fit your requirements.   Both make awesome products for the price and do it in an acceptable time frame.

I'd also add Black Lab Golf to that list, have heard nothing but good things about Chip, his work and his prices.

 

Royal Payne Putters. He's newer to the game, work is getting better but his price is very good, less than the TaylorMade for a custom milled.

 

Carbon Putters. You hear mixed things from them, the bad is usually customer service related but the good is always the putter quality.

I second calling Chip at Black Lab and also recommend checking Tim at Bellum Winmore.

All of these suggestions are great, especially Bellum Winmore. If you crank it up another $100 or so it really opens up a lot of other sweet options. I’m partial to Lajosi, but TP Mills is also Grade A. This copper plated Lajosi is starting to patina nicely. Also, a BW CloverDude is included for your viewing pleasure. The Dude Abides.

I've had great experience with Chip at black lab.  Truly a first class operation.  David at TP Mills is also great for truly custom, but a little higher price point.

What do you quantify as a custom made/designed putter?  Do you just want someone that CNC's a head and then stamps and maybe puts a different finish on it and bends it for loft?  There are a gazillion of those.

 

An actual custom designed putter for 500?  Probably not gonna happen.  A custom designed putter(your design) will have to be handmade or will be a one time piece on a CNC machine, which costs an arm and a leg.  A truly custom piece you are talking over a grand.

 

If you are somewhere in between there are few good guys that will CNC a base head, then hand mill it to your exact specs(whatever weight you want), no bending for loft, will put whatever hosel you want on it, have a few different head materials(carbon/Stainless/bronze/copper) and stamp paintfill and put a finish on it for you.

 

My favorites in this area are Mannkrafted and Lajosi.  They have been doing it the longest.  There are a lot of new guys out there in this area, but these two have the most experience, LaMont works and has worked directly with numerous Nike, PGA, Kornferry winners and players designing putters explicitly for them.  His putters have won a few events on the mini tours and kornferry (getting a win on the PGA requires luck and money for sponsoring).  You can get a custom as I designated it in the middle here for around what you are looking for from both guys depending upon what you actually want.

WAY off topic, but I kill myself daily for not buying the Dude covers when Seamus had them out.  Obviously I'm not a golfer...

Bradley putters/swag. I would deem custom putters.

Swag are pretty much the furthest thing from custom. They are released and bought as is. They do have some cool looking stuff....not custom in the same sense as Lamont or Lajosi...mills etc etc
